Jackie Gleason is the classic example of the old show business adage that if you can play comedy, you can play anything. As well as being a great comedian and comedic actor, he was a truly great dramatic actor. He was an extraordinarily talented man.

He was a genius, with a photographic memory, although he was not formally educated. He could act, compose lyrics for his “mood music”

My Dad, also a man of " The Greatest Generation " , LOVED Jackie Gleason. My Brother & I grew up to " The Honeymooners " , & the music that bore his name. I too, own 8 CD's of Gleason's music. And, when Gleason passed, Dad truly did mourn . Now, i too, am a fan of " The Great One " .-----MJL< 76 y/o

My childhood is very similar to Jackie Gleason’s. My father Joe walked out on me & my mother Olivia when I was 12 years old back in 1984 and then my mother had no experience at working, soon got a job as a seamstress in a sweater factory. I had an older sister named Maria died in 1976 at 7 years old from Tuberculosis. Then in April 16th, 1991 my mom who was only 37 years old died from appendicitis. I was 18 years old & also had no family. I didn’t know any of my father’s side of his family. I survived & I’ve been on my own in the world for 30 years since then.

Same here. Dad left when I was 4 years old, left my mom and me on our own in a tough neighborhood. Mom ended up starting as a cashier to becoming Vice President of her company, so I had a pretty good life as a kid. But it still stings how my birth father wasn't there for me. I taught myself how to shave, how to fight, how to ride a bike. All that stuff.

Jackie Gleason had a good life once he became a television star in the early fifties, before that, he did have a hard life.

I saw this when it first aired when I was 19,I remember the Miami show and have been a fan of Jackie's for 50+ years (I look more and more like him with each passing year lol).As someone in the music biz and a writer too,I also share Jackie's view of the entertainment establishment.They want your fear, your unquestioning subservience,and your soul (kinda like the government lol).Good luck to them trying to get mine.................

"There are executives who have a great talent and that talent is to say yes that sounds like no, or no that sounds like yes." Ain't that the truth. And not just in show business.

Here’s a thought: Ralph Kramden is basically a grownup Charlie Brown of Peanuts. Both keep losing, both keep trying (and in Alice, you sort of have a version of Lucy Van Pelt).
@mirandavinci4146 Жыл бұрын
I wonder what Jackie's fears and insecurities were because I know that even though comedians seem happy on the outside, on the inside it's not all it's cracked up to be

All have sinned and fall short of the will of God. Repentance and trusting Jesus Christ as the One who took the penalty for our sins is the ONLY way to heaven
@tex959 Жыл бұрын
Repentance is a work unless God is causing the repentance, then in that case why would you be asking for anyone to do anything if God was the one doing the thing (repentance) On the other hand, if repentance requires some work; then, your name would seem to be a contradiction

I don’t see ANY similarity between Ralph Kramden and Archie Bunker!
@hapgood222 жыл бұрын
Both Archie and Ralph were big mouths and were not that bright, but that's where the similarities end. Ralph Kramden was not a bigot.
