I have bilateral mastoid cavities and have found that there is not much sensation in either of them.

I wondered the same. My mom had a large tumor removed that not only took the entire nerve from the ear, but also part of her face on that side. She can feel her canal, but the mastoid was removed during the surgery. I really want to have a peek in her ear! She says it doesn’t feel any different, but I know her anatomy has changed.
