Could you advise please. My use case is that I wish to be able to “tag” certain topics and then be able to view a list of highlights within that tag. Does Inoreader offer this functionality?

You can list articles to which a certain tag was assigned. Tags cannot be assigned to highlights. Omnivore is capable of this, though.

I created a rule to tag all crime related articles but some sports and games articles get mixed up in it. Is there a good way to fine tune my inoreader setup to strictly include only crime related articles?

on the Mac with Apple Silicon chip (which is all Macs from 2020) you can download the iPad version on your Mac. Not the best experience but it works quite well.

LOL... some high velocity feeds get marked as read from time to time or automatically for articles older than 30 days! Don't worry!
