Hi All,
I have been using an RSS Reader for years but I see that RSS is on the decline. That stinks!! I did not want to take for granted smart people are aware of these valuable resources.

I've been using Thunderbird as an RSS reader for the past few months and quite like it. There you can also add filters to for example filter out sponsored content or certain topics in some news feeds. My 'problem' has always just been to find interesting feeds to follow. I also didn't know youtube is RSS compatible, so thanks for that info! :)

For those looking for FOSS options: Newsboat for CLI, NewsFlash for GUI.

RSS is so essential to keep yourself informed while deciding on your own which sources to consume. The bubbles that social media create can be really toxic, creating anger and making public information and opinions drift apart more and more. Thanks a lot for reminding people that RSS is still very relevant, maybe more than ever! I started with Google Reader back then, and moved to Feedly after it was discontinued. Then I switched to self-hosted Tiny Tiny RSS, and because I didn't like its design, I created the Feedly theme for it. TT-RSS can be a bit sluggish, but it's really powerful and extensible via plugins and themes! Also tried Inoreader a bit, imho the best RSS reader service out there right now if you can't/don't want to self-host.

Man, I am old, but this was a really clear and great intro on the pros of RSS. Add podcasts indeed and it's killa. Thanks!

I really appreciate this! I'm a twenty-something who has been interested in RSS and known the basics since I was a kid. But it's a good reminder that it can be a very useful way to take some control back from social media algorithms.

Great to see someone flying the flag for RSS. Personally, I use Newsboat for CLI, and Lifrea for GUI.

I use feedly as a discovery tool, it's pretty good at finding feeds. I add them to feedly, export them from feedly into my rss reader of choice

🛌 still waiting on part 2. I will say that a lot of goodies these days are behind logins. Twitter and LinkedIn for example. Kinda annoying...

I've been wanting to get my own RSS reader but as soon as I heard you talk about money I got a bit upset. I will never pay for software - especially for things like this. Isn't there an unlimited, free and open source version? There has to be. I would much rather host my own than to rely on some corporation with limits and spam to bug me to give them money. Audiobooks: audiobookshelf Photos/video: Immich Encrypted voice chat: Jitsi Meet Media/Movies: Jellyfin RSS: ???

Nextcloud news would be self hosted and FOSS. TinyRSS too. I was trying to make it easy for non-tech viewers.
