I live in the safest place when it comes to one. Not in a city. Out of strike zone. In the middle of the missiles. When it starts. Who cares about hitting here. Then. In the best home design. Basement home with a double roof. People drive by them all the time and have no clue they did. Don't mess with them. All you can do to them is touch the fence. Then. Look behind you. You belong to the military then. Just stay out of the major cities. Live where there is wildlife. In a valley.

I have a friend that got killed in Yemen. He was a convert to Islam and decided to move to Yemen to this camp (not a training camp) but literally this camp where people lived and just focused on religion. It's like a Muslim hippie cult I guess. Anyway, when the civil war broke out, his camp was besieged by houthi rebels and he got killed trying to sneak out and find food for everyone. The last conversation I had with him was me trying to convince him not to go. The conversation ended with him hanging up on me. The conversation didn't go well. That's the last time I talked to him. It's sad because he had a good heart. He was truly one of the only people I know with a heart full of love and concern for everyone.

Concerning Alaska, there's bears, wolves, landslides, high tides, fast rivers, boulders, hypothermia. Freezing in cold delirium. Suicides. Cabin fever. Mud like quicksand. Alcohol fueled domestic violence.
@_M_a_r_t_i_n_M10 ай бұрын
Concerning the suicides. It's really more of a general far-northern regional thing. With the weirdness of the ever extreme-changing of light cycles that messes with people. Near total darkness in winter. Utter relentless sunlight in summer. Even in more temperate northern countries, Seasonal Depression is a real thing for a large percentage of the populations. Winters can really suck if there is too little snow and therefore nothing to do (most outdoor activities are weather-condition dependent). And video games are not a stand-in for a real life. You really need to make as much use of spring/summer/autumn months as much as you can for said reasons. But I would NEVER give this up just to live somewhere where summer lasts all year around just to get bitten by a Malaria Mosquito or kidnapped by a Cartel because I was seen buying something perceived valuable.

Jamie , my VERY first reaction/thought/gut-feeling when I read your comment was, “That’s because “they”(the law enforcement/government) is/are in on it.” Or are paid off to ignore it. Now, yes, I think many of us already assume this, but I think it’s FAR more prevalent than we realize . Eyes Wide Shut , right ? Can you say what state this was in ? My state has quite a few reservations. And they range from super depressed to very economically successful and with healthcare/education as well. Of course even in the seemingly “good” reservations, crime like that can exist. I’m SO over corruption.

Two more years and we’re due for the 17 year cicadas. I have a collection of shells. I first encountered chiggers in Kentucky. I thought I had body lice or scabies and went to a walk-in clinic. There, the nurses laughed at me, a New Yorker full of chigger bites thinking she had the scabies. That Chigger Rid concoction really does work. Oddly, I’m not afraid of spiders. I think they’re fascinating, but if you’re a black widow, brown recluse, or an enraged orb weaver, I have a healthy respect.

I was almost abducted; I had been at a park in Tulsa it was a hot and humid day and family members were there as well. We ended up playing in the water to stay cooled off. One had a log that you pushed up and down and water would come raining down on you. I noticed a person who worked there was videotaping me. Later on, I figured out a video had been made of me and I reported it to the head Person of that park. Sometime later I was biking on the path and went away that took you by a fire house and I saw a person sitting on a water fountain I thought that was odd. On my way back I went back up the hill to go to my car and a car came around up a hill it was a white bronco I had just got up the hill and I saw it coming and a person had the door starting to open I knew right away what was about to happen, then I noticed a man at his truck that lived on that street. I just kept biking until I got to my car. I assume the man at the truck called law enforcement. It scared the living day out of me!

After the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, my sister's church went into Mission Mode---one of the things they did was have all the ladies (and maybe some men?) who could sew start turning pillow cases into children's clothing. Apparently, things were so horrible that there were parentless, naked children just on their own---who would be kidnapped and probably sold into some heinous slave trade. But, if the children at least had some shorts on or a little dress, they had a marginally better chance of being taken in and cared for, post-disaster. Her church's Pastor went there in person to do humanitarian work---that's where this account comes from.

Also really small towns (before Amazon) had one room store fronts and if someone ordered from Sears, Penney’s, Western Auto the package goes to the store front and the customer gets a postcard to go pick it up. Would be difficult, but for any stores that did that, were a lot of packages returned that year? Prolly records of that don’t exist anymore, but who knows.
