Update: this plane recently crashed, moderately injuring its pilot. News footage of the crash aftermath can be seen here:
www.3news.co.nz...
This (about) 60% full-size homebuilt Focke Wulf 190 replica was seen at the Tokoroa Airfield at the local Aero Club's fly-in, April 2010.
Sorry about the less than perfect flyby pictures, cloud-cover was thick with persistent drizzle and it was very cold (hence the camera shake!).
I'm sure I've seen one this big on KZbin with an RC receiver and servos in it.

@STDrepository Which is why FlugWerk built the full scale Fw190 replicas, which are sold in semi-kit form. The business model was a lower-cost full scale Fw190 (not 100% original) with a substitute engine that's easy to fix. Owner final assembly allowed lower insurance. Still, with a base price of 555,000 Euros (less electrical, hydraulics, avionics) the final costs are still very high--which is why the scale homebuilts are still attractive for those without deep pockets.

@STDrepository The W.A.R. replica Fw190 was designed in 1973 as a scale homebuilt and was followed by other scale warbirds. You can still buy the plans today. (See the W.A.R. website.) Scale homebuilts are much easier to insure and maintain and have much lower operating costs than the multimillion dollar originals today. A full scale replica would be heavy and much more expensive to build and operate (see FlugWerk) with a rare expensive engine (more fuel, more maintenance, etc.)

Sorry to hear about the crash, but you are very lucky! Owned VH-WWF for a few years and it was a widow maker if something went wrong with its enormously high stall speed. Nevertheless, a very special plane. Felt too old for it when I sold it in my early 30's after only 54 hours flying it...but then again..the guy who bought it was back then 100 years old and took it home by trailer..lol..and hasnt flown much since...think the 3-blade prop you had on, was the one I sold to Harvey Helicopters....

War Aircraft Replicas (WAR) began plans and kit parts in the late 70's. And the FW-190 and other WAR aircraft are 50% scale, not 60%. It is a nice replica. One of the WAR planes used to be on display in the Museum of Flight in Seattle, WA. It was a great addition for the public (especially the kids) to sit in and work the controls.

If I were to do a homebuilt replica,this would be my choice.I am a 30+ years experienced A&P/IA general aviation mechanic and know from where I speak.This looks like a W.A.R. replica,an all wood constructed airframe powered by a Continental O-200 engine of 100 horsepower,commonly used in the Cessna 150.The two keys to this are, proper airframe construction and a good,reliable engine.Converted auto engines and Rotax snowmobile engines are of questionable reliability and lifespan.there are many who would argue this point and are welcome to their opinions,but in my opinion,a real AIRPLANE engine presents fewer problems and unknowns.The key to that,is to build one with professionally reworked,yellow tagged components,no "as is,but serviceable" ones,especially where the crankshaft,connecting rods and cylinders are concerned.A professionally overhauled and well maintained O-200,O-235 or O-320 will deliver years and years of trouble free and safe performance,and anything less will only deliver years and years of dead stick forced landings and headaches.I've seen plenty.

@endwood

+Roger Forgues Whilst the Conty may have been the cause (as I don't know the real reason) it's usually due to poor maint. The 0200 is one of the most under-stressed reliable donks out there, ya just can't kill one unless of course it's run/mishandled. I've spent 35 yrs behind most engine types (mainly Lyc & Conty in light A/C) as well as many turbines/jets with many 1000's of hrs & have never had a piston engine fail. Seen far too many other eng types fail to ever willingly be behind one. Each to their own I guess but we do have choices:-)

There can be many causes,cheap overhauls with questionable parts,old mags and carbs,detonation with car gas,water in the fuel,or just low on oil.. It can't be done on the cheap,particularly where the engine is concerned.

The Focke Wulf 190 replica looks fabulous but the engine sounds like it putts along and I guess its because of the engine size due to the scale of the air frame. But in all its a beautiful replica of the famed aircraft.

@lightntasty7 Perhaps because the original was built during WW2 and flown by Germans? Just guessing here, but I believe that particular was is over. This one is a smaller replica, beautifully built and NOT being flown by an enemy of the free world. Get it? .... or is this concept just too difficult for you to fathom? This is an awesome plane, thanks for sharign the video. I was looking for R/C scale, and thought this was one of the big ones, I was giddy when I saw a real human in it! As for the symbology, it is a scale replica and people doing replicas aren't interested in supporting the cause so much as providing an honest history for the replica. Though in some countries who'd rather leave their past behind it could land you in jail.

Compliments to the builders of this beautiful replica! Although I can see the sensitivity surrounding the "nazi symbols"... I think that these symbols are simply homage to a time period and a piece of (incredible) aeronautical history, not homage to the atrocities committed under the 3rd Reich. Japanese people might be offended by the "flying star" logo on American WWII aircraft because those symbols "represent" atomic warfare to them. It's history, not revival.
