When we go through trying times in life, we can oftentimes overreact and respond in ways that are entirely out of line with regards to the situation at hand. Like if you have a ton of music to get done and someone calls your cell, you might respond with a loud “WHAT?!” Staying more organized and keeping lists of things you need to get done, and clearly defining tasks and goals, will free up your brain to handle important situation and keep you progressing in your music.
Today, society has become an army of knowledge workers, trying to balance multiple projects and tasks. We try to stuff an onslaught of information into our heads, trying to remember upcoming tasks and events that are on our minds. As a result, our brain’s ability to think is severely hampered with this overflow of information. When you try to remember too much, your ability to concentrate on a current task declines as it is trying to solve all of the existing problems and tasks that also haven’t been completed yet. Because you have these open loops that haven’t been resolved, your brain will constantly nag you about them. You will likely lose focus on any task at hand when tasks you need to complete like paying your cell phone bill keep bugging you.
TAKE ACTION: Luckily for you there are ways to solve this ever-present dilemma in our lives. First, note down your thoughts and have them visually in front of them instead of keeping creative ideas and to-do lists in your head. Second, specify what each item’s role is when your completing any task. Third, list all of the outcomes in an organized fashion. Fourth, pinpoint the things that are important to you and focus on the most significant first. Finally, execute and take action on the task. Having a system for performing various tasks will provide you with a feeling of control over your music, which will result in a more relaxed state for you to make better decisions and be more flexible when challenging situations arrive.
Keep It Movin,
