new subscriber! Awesome recovery job, impressed with the night work. Confused how a truck with that weight could even consider crossing that bridge, the most bizarre thing I've seen today.
@sebofo9 жыл бұрын
It looks like this accident was based on the theory that "if I drive fast enough, nature will not have time to discover that my vehicle weighs 55 tons, and thus I'll clear the bridge before anything happens to it...." You can see this phenomenon on Tom & Jerry cartoons. Maybe the truck driver watches a lot of those.
@cdmikelis9 жыл бұрын
sebofo We had many years go same stuff in our Village. Wooden bridge, heavy truck with trailer loaded with cement blocks. Driver crawled over bridhe in slowest gear with steady throttle. Bridge was crying and shaking. But than he thought he is safe and he shifted into second gear onle meter before driving axle was on firm land again. That blown the planks apart and trailer felt into river, dragged truck back into watter to. It was middle day.

FishplateFilms Floating bridges used to be common. This one is (was) the last one open for vehicle traffic. At 4 tons maximum capacity it started to feel a bit wobbly driving a car across it. The water it crosses is the river "Österdalälven"; the water-level varies quite a bit. As shown in the video the water is at its lowest level which makes the final section onto land a bit steep.

Transporting a heavy load in a large truck at night on local roads requires planning, which this driver apparently did not do. Perhaps he relied on his GPS to find the way, and we've all had issues with that method! Modern mapping provides all the data we need, but it can also lead us far astray.
@hejamodo3 жыл бұрын
There are really clear signs, and if he didn't see them he really shouldn't drive a truck. It's a narrow wooden pontoon bridge and he should've realized he was to heavy just by looking at it.

@@qusaisaher I really hope you're kidding. A new truck like that (if it's not used) costs around 1 mil SEK (100k Euros) from the factory without the tanks, stock paint and without bumper bar and extra lights. Not sure about how much a trailer costs but I know an asphalt tub costs around 150k SEK (15k Euros) so I'd guess quadruple that and you get yourself a new trailer with all the equipment you need.

I wonder how the driver argued with himself before entering the bridge; Hmm, the bridge is OK for 4 tons, and my truck wheighs in at 40 tons... Could have been a whole lot worse. This happened on a floating bridge which sustained minimal damage and no lives were at risk, apart from minimal risk to the driver. Just imagine if this had happened on a conventional bridge, crossing another road or a railway line. The company was no doubt fully insured as required by law, so it is unlikely they went out of business. They may experience some overloading on next year's premium, though.
@Frulck9 жыл бұрын
1: The driver was near death, a thick pole that hold the bridge in place was 1dm from his stomack and could sink in to the 22m river, he also got physical damage. 2: It was a one man company, so he had to pay ~300 000€
@fkarno9 жыл бұрын
+Frulck -- I am relying on information from the owner of this channel, ADVideofilm. In the very top post they say that the driver was not hurt in the accident, so for you to say that he was "near death" and "he also got physical damage" does not ring true. I have looked up a number of other reports and they all say that the driver was not injured.Your statement that the driver "was a one man company, so he had to pay €300.000" is nonsense. It does not matter if the driver is an owner-operator or if he works for a multi-national because ALL motor vehicles in Sweden must carry insurance. However, it is possible that the insurance company claimed it back from him because this was NOT an accident. It is reported in several places that the driver knew that the bridge would not carry him and made the attempt anyway, and at full speed. In those circumstances (a deliberate and monumentally-stupid act) the insurers must still pay for the damage but they can reclaim from the driver.
