Ah.. just incase anyone wanted to know about why a snake.. it might be something the western world have different thought about. In Buddhism, the Naga, a divine serpent, is considered a protector and is often depicted in Thai art and architecture. Some people in Thailand believe that encountering a snake can bring good luck or be a sign of spiritual enlightenment.

You’re speaking of Western mythology, not Eastern…Abrahamic traditions would not be a key influence. Snakes or Nagas have been prevalent in Buddhist culture as powerful protectors, some who even protected Lord Buddha himself. There are also stories of a whole race of semi-divine snake shapeshifters called Naga, who are cultured and powerful (think fae or elves in Western folklore). This can be seen across countries with Buddhist influence…for example, according to Cambodian folklore, their people are descended from a Naga-human union. There is some connection with fertility, but this wouldn’t be a key association in countries like Thailand with cultures heavily influenced by Buddhism.
