Keep the battery charged or it will take out your solenoid. Low voltage = higher amps. These bikes don't like to sit for long either. Hard starting & clutch drag. Ride em regular & no problems. TYRR

12.6V static, but probably 8V during cranking. Battery Tenders/Trickle Chargers are a great thing to have during storage.

Yes pretty low during start attempts. The previous owner bught it installed it and stored the bike 7 months without doing what so ever to it. it's dead now. pure waste....

had the same problem, it is electric in nature, the cables in the steering were cracked, fixed it and starst with the first push of the button

@@michaelovitch check the cabling on the steering-frame section, mine started to have hard cranks and after months it burned fuses (left me 2-3 times on the road) my mechanic had a hard time but finally found the cracked cables.

I think the mixture is wrong. Fuel level or choke mechanism problematic. The engine turns fast enough.

What did you find this bike like for starting on a REALLY COLD morning if it hadn't been used for several days? How long did you usually need to crank it over for before it would fire up and run? What was it like pulling up really steep hills with a very cold engine?

Now we changed the intake boots ,it's staring really well ,even after few days of inactivity. However ,if it's really hot ,like now,you have gas evaporation,and it's not that easy to start it. No it's never been like pulling up a steep hill with a very cold engine. But in winter when it's really cold it's puffing exhaust smoke at 3 meters like a steam train if you like that.

There is something wrong with this bike, i know two different XT600, and both start up on first try, better than any other 600cc single i know. If the engine is cold, dont give it any gas to start, if it warmed up it sometimes needs a little bit of throttle.

The intake pipes connecting the carb to the head were torn. We changed them ,the bike is starting very quickly now ,within 2 seconds,even very cold. : )

You shall not use any handtwist on the throttle.. Thinking this could be your culprit in this.. Seeing you operates the throttle.. To me it would mean that it's in for getting a oily plug.

+mada mada6 The intake boots were cracked too,but we barely saw it untill we removed them. A tired battery will not allow the engine to keep a nice idle. The same happened to my car, i had hesitation on low rpm and slow windows,etc...but the car started ok. It's really important to have a healthy battery. Check your voltage,you should have more than 12.3 volts minimum.

+michaelovitch I think I forgot the ignition left on and stayed like that for a night...in the morning I removed the batery to recharge it with the redressor/recharger and it doesn't recharge. ....my fear is that might be other damages at the electrical of the bike
