Thank you very much for this informative video! I'm currently finishing horizontal smaw and was very inconsistent and not confident with the 6010. After watching this video I went from worrying about failing cause I couldn't get consistent penetration on an open root pass to successfully doing 2 good root passes on my practice and actual test plates which is most of the grade. I was able to successfully complete them on the last day of class and my grade jumped from failing to an A. You have a gift for teaching. Thanks again!

I have a copy of (welders offshore guide), that's sold on EBAY, and in one part of it, it tells how a number of welders learn and get certified without ever having to go to an expensive welding school. So many young men want to be welders but some are already married and cannot afford to take a year out of their life and go back to vocational training school. Ingalls in pascagoula, ms. Has 3 year pipe welding apprentice programs where they pay $17.50 per hr. Just to train you, drawback is passing a drug test and no criminal background which most welders have issues with both. That's why I like the welders offshore guide because it overcomes all those issues with the knowledge it provides on learning and getting certified, without having to go through long awaited union programs, some welders follow its advice and get certified in a few weeks. I wish it had been published back in the 70's when I started welding.

Here’s some helpful advice for you, on tie ins, when you feather your welds down with the grinder and you start welding. Instead of just starting where you left off, blow through that about 1/8th inch from where it ends and I promise you’ll never see your ties in at all on a root bead
@DavidDiaz-zp4hu4 жыл бұрын
Another lil bit harder but faster & easier on the fitter way is to not just go cold lap right into your continuation spot but set their just a bit n long arc it to bring up the temperature on the stop spot & then get back in it.

Learnt a lot in this video, currently doing 1g open roots and I think ima turn my amperage down and pause at the edge of the keyhole instead of the puddle. This whole time I thought whip and pause you paused at the puddle. Long story short my keyholes go absolutely out of control after a while, and I then have a giant ‘chode’ (what my welding teacher calls it😂)where I spent half a rod filling in a blow through. I can’t wait to try this

For 6010 stick root, pipe 2G position, how do you control the keyhole from getting too big and creating a big hole. Sometimes it’s difficult to fill back in during the root, or when you try to fill it back in after you’ve stopped, it looks inconsistent from your original pass.
