Welcome to Wonderhussy Adventure #600
Date of adventure: 1/13/22
Way out on an extremely desolate stretch of highway halfway between the Amargosa Opera House and the Area 51 Alien Travel Center, a lone casino waits patiently for Yucca Mountain employees that never materialized. The nuke repository might be dead in the water -- but there's still plenty of weird action at Jim Marsh's Longstreet Inn & Casino! It's like being in a David Lynch movie...come with me as I investigate the best place to stay in all of Amargosa Valley!

I’ve bought 4 cars from Jim Marsh. He is a nice man. He always sends a thank you note for buying the car. In his dealerships there are TONS of cool items like you are seeing there. I think it is so much fun to see these wild and wonderful collections.

Yep that’s a steam thresher. In those days the wheat came to the thresher on wagons after being cut instead of the thresher going to the wheat. The conveyor was the same height as the wagons. Have fun out there!

Ponderossa Dairy in Amargossa has a ton of employees, and they go to the Longstreet and that bar across the street. That's largely why they exist. Same with the Ruby store, which has great burritos, and Martells Market which believe it or not has some of the best chinese food you'll find in Nevada

My BMW motorcycle club spent a night at the Longstreet in February 2012 while on a three day ride from SoCal. The room was nice, had a fireplace and looked out on the lake in the back with ducks coming right up to the window. The restaurant, while not large, was good with friendly staff. Nice job on this video.

The Faribanks Morse is an old hit and miss engine, the older ones like that often ran on kerosine. They were often used on farms here in the upper midwest for various jobs. They actually have clubs that collect and restore them. The threshing machine was a surprise to see down there, all the old Scandinavians and Germans up here in Minnesota including my father called them trashing machines.

Very gracious of you to give an upbeat tour of this desert casino. I hope the owner appreciates your good opinion of his venue. I would certainly stay there, in preference to a Las Vegas or Reno experience. I wonder if there is a general aviation airstrip close by. People could fly in, stay at the casino, and not be bothered with big city crowds, noise, crime, etc. That petting zoo is a hit.

@JDOTVegas
@JDOTVegas 2 жыл бұрын
@@FrankBullitt390 I think the closest public airstrip to Area 51 is in Tonopah if Rachel doesn't have one. Either way, this hotel is closer to Pahrump, which does have an airstrip, but is in the other direction from Area 51. The closest Airforce base to Area 51 is Creech AFB which actually has roads that lead to Groom Lake.

The things with the flywheels are Gas engines. The Fairbanks Morse is a vertical style. Type made around the early 1900s. I actually have a bunch of those myself! Give me some time and I bet I could get them running! And yes, that was a Threshing Machine! They are also called Separators. Ran by a steam traction engine or Tractor with a flat belt pulley.

Good to see you out and about, Wonderhussy. Must be feeling better. Very interesting video. No overcrowding. All the attractions of Las Vegas spread out for miles. That last animal is unusual in any petting zoo. Don't find many water buffalo in any desert. Hope that casino/hotel continues to thrive in its little corner. Diversification probably helps. Stay well Sarah. 😎

The FAIRBANKS-MORSE machine is on old diesel single cylinder engine. They were mostly used to generate electricity for manufacturing plants and small cities. But, this one looks like it was used as a belt/pulley system to run other machines like drills, lathes and other devices in a shop, since there are no generator coils.
