Nice first build. Reminds me of all the mistakes I made. For example when I saw you clamp the neck and body together, then bust out the cordless hand drill I was like-- OMG.. Noo. I would have mounted your trem bridge - since the body was already pre-drilled, put the tuners on and a nut, then clamp it together with low and high e strings installed, then you could line everything up. including lining up the pickup screws with the strings. If you had to drill holes for the pick guard that would have been the time. When mounting the neck I use the plate as a guide to drill 4 holes in the body first and use a drill press. Then clamp it together and continue the holes into the neck. Here's where I do something different. Once you have your 3/16" holes drilled through the body and into the neck , I take the neck back over to the drill press and re drill the holes to 9/32 in. The I install Everbuilt #10-32 brass insert nuts (From Lowes) into the neck. Then I mount the neck with #10-32 x 1-1/2in counter sunk screws. Makes for a very tight neck joint. Anyways.. that's my 2 cents :).

In the end you will find it less stressfull buying a cheap Stratlike guitar and upgrading parts and doing the neckwork. Amazing that you did no check of the neck before installing it. The adjustment point was clearly visible at the moment you took it out. My experience told me to make the neck perfect to your liking before even thinking of connecting it to a body. So, straighten it, flatten the frets, crown them, polish and then you'll be good to go, neckwise. Enjoyed the video though. It is better to have sunglasses with UV protection, sure, but it's not like sunglasses without UV protection will somehow destroy your eyes within days. It might at best have a fairly miniscule effect after several decades (and any actual scientific proof of the long-term benefit of using UV protective sunglasses is almost nonexistent). It's not like the difference in pupil dilation with and without sunglasses is that significant to begin with, plus you only wear sunglasses a fraction of time, so the rest of the time your eyes are "unprotected" from UV anyway. Saying "she should not wear those" is vastly overblown. The whole UV protection scare is to a large degree just luxury brands trying to sell you their insanely overpriced products (and cheap sunglasses doesn't automatically equal no UV, too). Also, fun fact, even with UV protective lenses, a large amount of UV radiation finds its way into the eye around the frames anyway. So yeah, sure, UV protection is a nice thing to have, but it's really not that big of a deal you've been made to believe either.

It is. It is a composite, held together with resin. I have single hum strat with that for the body, it's very dense and heavy!
@mattdoliver1984 Жыл бұрын
I would say it was Zebra wood of sorts, it doesn't seem to be a solid piece of timber, from what I could see it looks like loads of thinner layers laminated together. It's hard to tell from seeing it onscreen. I think Zebra wood is an acquired taste but looked really decent against that white body.

I have found that wire colors do not necessarily correspond to expected norms when buying super low-dollar products. That wood is playdonium. It has the same hardness and strength as drilling into buttered toast.

8:13 "this is gonna get sketchy guys" Yeaaaah kinda knew it was going to go that way. There are some decent parts on the web but not a whole lot of standardization. Better to buy a cheap kit or "REAL" parts from vendors. I have an extra 2 guitars from just putting spare parts together. Love both of them too. Congrats on the build and making guitar sounds!

For reference, that neck is a laminate wood. Basically a nice form of plywood. I have several stocks to rifles with similar patterns.
@jmezzofante933711 ай бұрын
The neck looks like PSL (Parallel-Strand Lumber). It is an engineered wood consisting of strips of wood glued together. I would imagine the resonance of the wood/glue combo would cause the strings to sound more like a resin reinforced maple neck and sound much less warm than a softer wood. That is just my guess.

I love the individually bagged tuners. It wouldn't be from China if it didn't unnecessarily waste a bunch of plastic! BTW, buzzing in the lower frets, like the first 6 or 7, is usually an indication of the neck needing some relief. You may have overtightened the truss rod. Before making any more adjustments, let it settle in under string tension for a bit. That material is just getting used to being a guitar now for the first time. Buzz in the upper frets is a good sign that the action needs to be raised a little bit. Also, you should always detune your strings before making adjustments to the action, whether up or down. Hope this helps you in taming that beast, lol. Good luck, and have a happy holiday!

While it was fun to watch I think if someone is looking for an inexpensive guitar to learn on you could get a very inexpensive squier strat for around the same price as your parts (or a little bit more) and it would come already assembled and you could modify it.
