I grew up in Hawaii and years ago I got to see a large humpback up close while we were in a 22 ft boat in between Oahu and Molokai. It poked its massive head out of the water and turned slightly to it's side so it could look at us up close with one of its giant eyeballs. It was obviously very intelligent and curious but surprisingly not afraid. I had seen whales before but never this close. After it had examined us enough it dipped down under the water and few seconds later it breached almost its whole body out of the water and landed close to us but was careful not to hit us (definitely showing off!) and swam away. I don't know how anyone could even think about killing such a majestic and beautiful creature.

I was hit hard by a white shark while in my surf kayak in Pescadero, CA. My wife witnessed it from 30 feet away. I was thrown 4-5 feet in the air and knocked off my boat. While I was scrambling back on, this big squid (I thought), conical white and grey thing popped out of the water about 10 feet away. I heard my wife screaming but didn't hear what she was saying...until I saw this big black eye. I immediately realized she was screaming SHARK! I was so scared and paddled in so fast I hardly could talk. The last I saw of it was while I was turning my kayak toward the beach and felt and saw it swim and turn under by boat. When I inspected my boat there were a row of slit punctures , one of which had a beautiful white tooth stuck in it. I took it to Longs Marine Lab and they said it was larger that usual, from a likely 18-20 foot , 2500 lb. Great White Shark. I have the tooth still but rarely talk about that day because I realize just how lucky I was. It was October, 1999. ☮️

So, I still never surf, kayak or windsurf in October here in California. That's the month we usually take a vacation to Hawaii or beyond. What a great episode! The sea mining was very interesting, whales are always fascinating and as for the sharks, I wonder how many people lost their lives driving to the beach? Maybe automobiles need to be stopped? Duh, if you don’t want to take the risk, just don’t swim there. All animals have a right to be on the planet. Not just the ones that serve a purpose to humans.

It's truly unfortunate that international countries do not take an active role to preserve these amazing creatures. It takes a man and several crew members to preserve humpback whales 🐋 due to Japanese excessive consumption and poaching of endangered animals. Truly sad and heartbreaking!!! Hopefully, this video shades some light on this issue and force the international communities to intervene and stop extinction of these beautiful creatures!!

The U.S. enforces the laws with in our waters. But the wussies wouldn't even keep the Japanese out of the federal waters or the State waters of Alaska, to keep them from raping the sablefish and even harvesting the glacier ice from Le Conte Glacier and others I'm sure. That went on for who knows how long but all through the 80's when I was a kid and teen and probably through until the early 90's. But I'm sure they were taking whales and everything else they could get their thieving hands on!

I agree that a person’s life may be worth more than a shark or seal’s life. But the problem is, they live in the ocean, we can’t ask them to move. We, however, do not live in the ocean and yet we are killing the ocean. How is it that we have the right to do this? We also depend on the health of the ocean. We humans need to take responsibility for our actions and the risks we take. We do not have the right to live in a self centered oblivious fashion and expect every other species to just get out of the way. Hubris! Selfish!

I understand what you're saying but at the same time GOD gave us dominion over all creatures and of all the Earth and ever since sin entered the world there's been nothing but death and violence so we can't really coexist with animals like we were meant to. I guess we just have to do the best we can really.

This just made made me wonder. What if somehow human violence (dominion) had permitted earth to nurture two powerful, sentient and advanced species which share the dominance over nature we now enjoy/experience? And if that happened, what if WE were the subs? Would we have such a proprietary attitude towards nature expressed in our behavior, and founded in our religious texts, or would we be better stewards than we are today?

Are you talking about Ocean Ramsey? She is setting a very dangerous precedent by not respecting sharks' space. A lot of shark scientists are appalled by her lack of foresight. This kind of behaviour will embolden other less than knowledgeable tourists to want close-ups with wildlife without taking responsibility for their own actions when faced with an adverse reaction from the animal. It puts the human being and animal in danger. More importantly, it threatens the existence of that species from reactionary humans amongst us.

And all too often we hear from the capitalist controlled republiCONS "climate change is a hoax". All thanks to the money that lines their pockets and the propaganda campaigns started in the 1970's by big oil and their bought and paid for "scientists" writing up fake studies. There's a great 3 part series from Frontline/PBS called "The Power of Big Oil" that is very eye opening on the intentional subversion of facts they put out and how many people it convinced burning fossil fuels was a good thing. That poor shark will have some type of maneuvering disability because of that huge thing 🤷🏻‍♀️ Lastly, people who don’t want to get attacked by sharks, maybe they shouldn’t swim in shark infested waters.
