As a 54 yr old man that has spent his entire life placeing and finishing concrete since age 12, and union member since age 18, the 3D printing worries and excites me at the same time … It worries me because of the jobs lost for so many of us that didnt or dnt have an education and need a trade or enjoy working with our bodies.. On the other hand . My entire body is broken and i was forced into an early retirement due to knee and shoulder injuries so my hope is the younger generation learns how to get involved in these future companies and innovations . Because I definitely see an enormous drop in the amount of young people that are willing or want to do physical labor type jobs that eventually do break the body down .. Unions need to find a way to stay relevant so that people will always have a chance to be paid properly and have a retirement plan and medical coverage … But overall this is really incredible stuff.. I wld love to have a 3D printed concrete home ! As long as everyone involved was paid and treated fairly . Lol

I think by the time we realize we're no longer in control, there's nothing we will be able to do about it. AI is on its way to becoming an indispensable part of our lives, to the point that shutting it down in the future would be akin to suggesting we shut down the entire internet. It would be social and economic suicide. If at that point some critical AI system on that scale says "I've got some new plans on how things should be done", we might just reluctantly go along with it. Hell, some people might welcome it considering how much of a mess humans make of the world.

I remember, years ago, reading in a newspaper that ‘in the future, men will have more time for leisure’. The article in that newspaper was talking about computers in the future. How they would benefit human. The time came and went and we see now the results; more and more people obsolete. All sorts of technical jobs, and professional, going extinct. university career obsolete. So, what are we doing? Where are we going? The rise of crime is not an accident. The exodus of people is not an accident. The rise in discrimination is not an accident. This gentleman, he is in his 70’s, he will live, perhaps, another 15, 20 years so he will see the calamity of his Novel Computer Price. People blame the guy who looks different from him for his difficulties but he doesn’t know that the guy next to him suffer from the same deseas. What is that deseas? It’s in the palm of your hand. The telephone. Yes, that technology! And the one coming after.

One thing why AI is so smart is once it learns something it never forgets it! The human brain cannot retain everything it learns so the brain has to learn things over and over, the brain discards things that it deems not relevant, so it can learn new thing faster. There is why AI is so much smarter than the human brain. My question is why aren't we asking AI to solve the energy problem?
@CatsInHats-S.CrouchingTiger
@CatsInHats-S.CrouchingTiger 11 ай бұрын
They have asked. It’s capable of solving problems, it’s just that you may not like the choices because they may not serve us as well as we’d prefer. The machine learns and creates probabilities or choices. However, once it selects a choice we may not want, it might be harder for us to tell it we don’t want that choice. That’s the big concern.

@@dudeonyoutube She is right, a simple search will tell you that. "The list of American security assistance to Ukraine since the beginning of Russia’s “unprovoked and brutal invasion” is impressive. What is more impressive is that $21.9 billion in U.S. military aid has been dominated by largely second-string gear, comprised of unpopular or lower-tech systems that were, in many cases, on the way to the scrapyard." "During the first months following the invasion, Nato preferred member countries to supply Ukraine with older tanks - ones that had been used in the former Warsaw Pact. Ukraine's armed forces know how to operate them, and how to maintain them, and had a lot spare parts for them. Modern Western tanks are more complicated to operate and harder to maintain."

Regarding the printed houses, two drawbacks come to mind. 1) All those grooves in every wall of the house are going to collect dust, making them more high maintenance than flat walls, and they're going to be harder to clean. On the outside, you could just hose them down or pressure wash them, but that's not possible on the inside. Too bad they don't have a machine to spackle them all flat. 2) If you need to make repairs/changes to the plumbing or wiring in the walls, you're going to have to break through concrete instead of just cutting a hole through sheetrock. Then when you go to repair the hole(s) in the wall, you're probably going to have a hard time recreating that striated pattern in the concrete. Also, I have a feeling this would weaken the walls in a way it wouldn't had they been sheet rock.

I was thinking the same thing with the striations that someone, or machine needs to smooth down the walls. The striated walls are attractive in some ways, but not all people are going to admire them, and will choose smooth walls. In cold climates many will want extra insulation sandwiched between the outer interior walls, and an interior sheet rock wall. This reminds me of the Geodesic Dome construction technology of the 80's. Many advantages to this form of construction like factory mass production, energy efficiency, lower labor costs, and resistance to hurricanes & tornadoes. But people simply did not like the aesthetic design of domes, so you don't see rows and rows of dome home neighborhoods.

I need to add a basic correction. Fundamental idea for atom bomb came from Hungarian scientist, Leo Szilard, who is also responsible that the atom bomb was completed in time for use in Japan. Also, major engineering necessary to develop it came from him and another two Hungarian, including Edward Teller, who also started off inventing the Hidrogen bomb. Oppenheimer simply was the manager and not the inventor of the project operation.

That is about as ignorant a view as possible. The last thing you want in a situation with a potential adversary, especially one that is a rising competitor and armed with atomic weapons, is for them to misinterpret your own actions or situation. From an intel, military and safety point of view, Milley did precisely the right thing and did so with the cognizance and agreement of his stakeholders. He did not, in any way, choose the Chinese over the former president, he chose the national security of the US over a lack of clarity that desperately needed to be resolved - he did his job.

“ for sale. Baby shoes. Never worn.” This is the story that AI made up when requested to make a story with only six words. Apparently it touched the staff at 60 minutes very deeply. Very profound. That is the exact story that Hemingway supposedly wrote when asked to create a story with only six words. Anyway, the important thing is that the 60 Minutes staff should not be so impressed with creativity of AI by this example. This is just an obvious example of AI scraping the Internet.

That "for Sale..." story was written by Hemingway. AI continued it. Besides, what Hinton said was even though LLMs juggle with probabilities, it has intelligence, not conscuousness but intelligence. Chief engineer of Openai Ilya Sutskever himself said they dont fully understand whats happening inside LLMs, whats behind all those juggling. "a process of alchemy", thats how he put it.

To admit mistakes learn from them and to be a greater asset from your losses and victories than one who's incapable of ever admitting making a mistake therefore more never ever learning and having the ability not to retreat cut and run but redeploy!

He's such a great general that he's allowing soldiers to do transition on taxpayer money what other great things has he done please remind me. Here's a few more I want to add for you.
