It's cheaper than the alternative which is no more commercial ships through the red sea. You will either pay for it in taxes or you'll pay for it in the increase in product costs. Suddenly $4M missiles don't seem so expensive.

The costs of all those ships going around the long way is astronomically higher. Not just the fuel, but dramatically changes what can and can't be sent, especially perishables, agriculture products etc. There's a big questions mark on why the USA should be footing the bill, although the article fails to mention that lots of other countries have pitched in.

@Shah_creates 2 ай бұрын
@@buddymac78 I will answer the question you asked. Egypt, Saudi, UAE, and Jordan all have special agreements with the US. They do not want to see Hamas win for two reasons: it would “weaken” Israel and will complicate the India-Middle East Corridor for trading as Palestine would get in the way, and the Hamas win will embolden other Islamic and populist movements to rebel against the Gulf monarchies (and dictator in the case of Egypt). Saudi finally made their strongest statement urging for a ceasefire, but this was also motivated out of self-protection, as the Saudi masses are sympathetic to Palestine and would not tolerate their monarchy simple sit back and watch a genocide. But you are right: the only people who stand up for justice and Islamic democracy/governance and the Middle East happen to be Shia and backed by Iran.

Funny how 60 mins doesn’t mention the fact that Chinese and Russian ships sail through just fine. Also, some non Chinese ships and non Russian ships would wait for Chinese or Russian ships to come by then they would sail with them in close proximity so they think the Houthis would not attack. Also, Houthi uses drone and missiles that cost just a few hundred dollars while US military fires intercepts that cost tens of thousands of dollars. lol. If US was really serious about taking out the Houthis, they would have to do a ground invasion but they won’t, it would be too costly and it would probably up like another Afghanistan. Anyone here ever been to Yemen? If you haven’t, it’s basically the equivalent of Detroit in the ‘80’s and ‘90’s. It’s the ghetto of the Middle East. Literally. The real amazing thing is that naval intelligence is even able to come up with targets worth the cost of destroying in the first place even. You don’t even have to leave Sanaa to find starving and malnourished children on an enormously devastating scale. Ahh the VAQ-130 Zappers! I was in VAQ-137 based at NAS Whidbey Island, Washington with all the other VAQ commands and our hangar was right next to theirs. I had some really good buddies from that command and we worked well together when borrowing GSE or consumables was required in a pinch for flight schedule. Man what an experience being in a Navy squadron was, and some days it really does still feel like yesterday.

4:18 The Vice Admiral claims the US Navy hasn't seen such action since WWII. He needs to reopen his history books. During the 1988 naval conflict in the Persian Gulf, the U.S. Navy ships were attacked. The U.S. Navy launched Operation Praying Mantis on April 18, 1988, in retaliation for the mining of the USS Samuel B. Roberts by Iran. During this operation, the U.S. Navy destroyed two Iranian surveillance platforms, sank two of their ships, and severely damaged another. The most significant of these encounters was the largest surface naval action for the United States since World War II, resulting in the largest warship sunk by the U.S. Navy since WWII. The U.S. Navy also exchanged surface-to-surface missile fire with the Iranian forces during this operation. Also, review the 1987 USS Stark incident. Aside from that bit of misinformation, this was an outstanding video. Good job, 60 Minutes!

Qualifying his remarks for the uninitiated in a 60 Minutes audience would have extended the segment past 13:08 and probably edited out. Of greater concern is our time on station, ordnance re-supply and depth of the bench.

5:21 Am I mistaken here? Falklands War. In 1982, during the Falklands War, Argentine Navy Dassault-Breguet Super Étendard warplanes carrying the AM39 air-launched version of the Exocet caused damage which sank the Royal Navy destroyer HMS Sheffield on 4 May 1982. Two more Exocets struck the 15,000-ton merchant ship Atlantic Conveyor on 25 May.

I believe there were five Brit ships, along with the Sheffield, that went down. Even back then, when the RN was in far better shape, were it not for the US aid in intel and logistics, it would have been much worse. In fact, the Brits would probably have lost.@@im1who84u

If shippers have to spend X amount of $$$ in fuel by shipping around the horn of Africa, what is the USA, (ie: US Taxpayers), paying to fuel ships and aircraft/drones/etc in the Red Sea, plus over 7,000 US military men and women. All at US Taxpayer expense as well.

So I am no military strategist but wouldn't it make more sense to shoot at where the drones and missiles come from in Yemen instead of just shooting out at sea? This sounds dumb.

They do, that just isn't the focus of this piece. They were trying to highlight the anti-missile operations at protection. Not the counter-offensive strikes. The Navy launches ship to surface missile barrages on Houthi launch sites and bases in Western Yemen. The Admiral does mention that briefly in the video that they are finding and targeting launch sites after the Houthis reveal them.

I'm here to see my US Navy get it done. Look at that, we are still badasses. I was worried when I got out. And how about that,! , The Phalanx works pretty good, I always wondered if it would work when it counted. Thank you General Dynamics. And thank you to our Sailors. Always on my mind. Come home safe, keep your head on a swivel.

Mainly is due to decline of good faith in One God, and the Messianic order, which people should share by the interfaith, and brotherhood among mankind, the rise cults which has corrupted the Christian values in TVs, and Islamic prophetic tradition as well, and the lost Judaism of the good Hebrews rabbis and their isolation by the Zionist movement fabricated in England in the 1920, by the Balfour one sided agreement in violation of the human rights of the Palestinian natives, and disregards to UN security council mandate, for two states plans, for the Jewish refugees to return to Palestine, not the groups of armed Jewish mercenary, and millionaires whom in 1920 era funded lawless groups to start killing Palestinian natives along killing, ad bombing the British army personal up to 750 killed, its on British army record files. After 75 years of bloodshed and disregards now the Gaza genocide, and displacement. America has a duty to God the father, and Jesus teaching as a peace maker along other nations by not to send arms and funding to the Israeli regime.
