Hi Simon, loved your videos. I had a similar problem when I bought the body only of a Hofner President (1957-8) I ended re-gluing the neck and putting a large screw through the heel into the guitar from the top, if you were holding it with the neck upright. The result is really fantastic. The sound of my guitar now is incredible. It took me 3 years though from making a new neck, (I made the shape from a President I saw on e-bay) from a maple neck from China. Just finished a couple of months ago putting a single toaster style pickup on though it originally had 2 soap bar type pick ups. Love the finish you achieved on the body. Great job.

Great restoration. Suggest you try taking the fingerboard off again and putting in a truss rod - later Hofners (60's era) have them and the action stays good.

or replace the alloy reinforcement with graphite rods that way its not visible and stays true to its age and graphite is a hell of a lot stronger than alloy that's why i use it in all the banjos I make

Fantastic work! Have you not considered low tension strings? Thomastik Infeld make some amazing strings and have a variety of lower tension sets.
