Phil Keaggy has been a big influence on my acoustic guitar playing. Specifically, Find Me In These Fields. Open tunings, harmonics, hammer-on and pull-off over open strings. But mostly the feel, approach and passion behind every note. One-of-a-kind.

I remember all those years ago, when I still played how this type of jam just made music beyond fun! When working on any given project or rehearsal, one had to always keep the end goal in sight while playing. But, the times when on could just kick back and play for the pure simple pleasure of playing that the music could take one places beyond the here and now. THANK you so much for sharing this with us and for reminding me why I started playing bass -- I may have to start playing again, just to bring this back into my life!

This brings back a lot of my past. When Phil released “What a Day” and “Your Love Broke Through” I was working for Sparrow Records and then shortly after this he was signed to that label and I got to spend sometime with him, what a humble man. They don’t make music like this anymore.

While Leland, I know this was posted three years ago but what a cool jam I’m over here Bobbin And my head grooving with it myself brother thanks for the encouragement and music. I’m not a professional drummer, but I’ve played since I was 17 - now 57, in play in the worship band at my church every Sunday. It’s fun keeping in the pocket ,self taught and I appreciate talent from the old school, not really into this new drum and everything‘s about super speeds and fast which doesn’t impress me at all I like technique and really getting in the pocket and grooving like you Brother I appreciate your videos and again wow what a cool jam I’m head bobbing over here, brother 🥁🎸🥁🎸😎

Just thinking back to the era when this was recorded. I first met Phil right after these sessions (he was talking about them and played As The Ruin Falls for us), and did an interview with him for a radio station and which eventually became a magazine cover story (kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4LEnmuke91mrLM). And just thinking of Omartian's contributions to Aja a year or two later, and Producer of the Year for Christopher Cross shortly thereafter. And Knechtel with the piano on Bridge and the guitar solo on Bread's Guitar Man. A TON of musical history represented in that studio that day. This was great. Thanks for sharing!!

Holy smokes Leland great tune. you are so right there is so much stuff sitting in the vaults. I’ve been saying for years at record companies, or whoever can make some money releasing out takes jams stuff like that. There is a market for that stuff. They’ve done it quite successfully with Elvis. Can you imagine doing something like that with Linda Ronstadt Toto, Andrew Gold, Barbra Streisand, Phil Collins, etc. and stuff it’s just sitting there collecting dust it needs to be heard. Thank you for all you do I really enjoy your videos. I really respect your talent. Have a great Easter.

The cool thing about Phil Keaggy is that he is one of the most fearless players ever. He seems to always be pushing himself right to the edge and very rarely falls back on stock licks. Sometimes he'll try something and stumble a bit, but then he backs up and takes another run at it and nails it better than intended. He's a true master.

@@wildbillhackett 99% of main stream music. You look at top ten lists of guitarists and you will always get Eddie, jimmy, Brian, Jeff, Lindsey, some lesser known guys, slash, but Keaggy is never on that list. Of course, we know he should be, but he isn't. And that is my point. Phil keaggy is maybe the most underrated guitar master of all time. Literally everyone should know his name.
