I'm one of the few people born in Gen Z who watched ECW through my WWE Classics On Demand channel on my TV. Websites archived old ECW Hardcore TV episodes & ECW on TNN episodes on the family computer. I also had a library that let me rent ECW DVDs despite me being underage to rent them myself to play on my region-free DVD player. Since last year, I have had a WWE 2K17 save on my Xbox 360 that has all of my creations being based on ECW from 1996 - 1998 such as the superstars, arenas, and created titles based on the ones ECW used from 1996 -1998. ECW was a hardcore alternative to the cleaner WWE & WCW and that is how I look at it.

Great video, Ian.

To be fair, most of my ECW experience was by HEARING about ECW. You don't hear me talking about watching the shows and all the PPVs, ya know? ECW was considered one of the big 3, but in reality, it was much smaller than WWE or WCW. It was nearly impossible to find on television before the TNN show.

I only really knew of ECW thanks to my Dad’s best friend, who was a massive fan. He’s gone now, but not forgotten.
@ShaunTheCHB3 жыл бұрын
The funny thing is......the best chance many people got to see ECW was through video tapes you borrowed off your friends or hired from a video store before they got PPV. Down here in Australia, that was the ONLY way we got to watch it, VHS tapes were a god send to us, videos stores like Blockbuster were our holy grail for wrestling shows. There was no syndication here and cable tv here did not have ECW. We got WWF RAW on Fox Sports and WCW Nitro on TNT, both came on weekends (no Monday night wars for us.) But sadly no ECW. It was a fun time to be a fan, but there was also things that sucked at that time.
@BeAGoodDoga3 жыл бұрын
@@ShaunTheCHB really? That’s not what my Dad’s friend would’ve said, if he was still alive... He used to watch all 3 - WWF, WCW, & WCW - on Foxtel.

@@BeAGoodDoga To my recollection....the original ECW's tv show (Hardcore TV) was never on Foxtel, you might be thinking of WWE's ECW, that was on Fox 8 in 2006. But Hardcore TV never aired on Foxtel. Nitro and Raw yes, but Hardcore TV I'm absolutely sure never aired here. If it did....it must have aired at an ungodly time that nobody saw it, like 4am or something. But I'm absolutely positive it never aired here in Australia. My condolences for your dad's friend. :( We did get PPV's around late 99 for ECW but not very many. A show here and there and by that time ECW was on it's last legs. As for WWF and WCW, yes we got PPV's for Foxtel in 98 and we had Raw and Nitro on the weekends as I mentioned. But before PPV's came out for Foxtel and that all hit it's peak, we only had the VHS tapes. That was it. Foxtel changed all that and even then it was still hit and miss as to what we actually got. There was no WWE Network's or stuff like that back in those days. Fans are very lucky today.

That new intro! Remixed an old school one by the sounds of it? I’ll miss Lights obviously, but that’s distinctly 616 right there. I dig it. I never knew what else Sculptured Software made. Those SNES Star Wars games were HYPER challenging. Seeing Raven in that Sandman shirt makes me wonder if they licensed the logos. I’m SURE they didn’t haha. I remember my friend buying Hardcore Revolution and we figured out it was just Attitude 2.0 and we were like “screw this game” after that. The M rating made us think there’d be some redeeming value. I know in Attitude you could switch the “rating” to teen, which uncensored the curses and changed some of the music. I’m not sure it works like that in Hardcore Revolution. The fact that Anarchy Rulz is literally the same thing is absolutely shocking haha. Kaimo getting a showcase, I like it. Awesome video, and I’m turbo hyped for WM2000. I played SO much of that game, excited to see that!

The new intro is totally original, but based on the same theme as the most recent and even older ones. It was actually our boy 'No Taxes' Nigel Bravo that made it! I told him I wanted to keep the same idea, a nice hard, fading note that is capped off with a jingle. I started to feel weird about still borrowing her music and using the PlayStation trophy sound, I was like shit, I should just have my own! So Nigel made a ton of variations and this is the one I chose. And no, there's no way they got permission for that shirt, hahahaha. Thanks for watching, brudda. The WM 2000 episode will be sick!

I remember Hardcore Revolution cause me and my brothers rented it when we were the N64 back in the day. We had some fun with it but we never really kept renting it after that. The points you made comparing WWF and WCW during that time in wrestling was spot on. Made total sense to me. Yea. We're all young kids with high hopes and big letdowns

The way you described the Tables match type in Anarky Rulz fits, after all they had a Ladder Match for the World Title that had nothing hanging and it could only end by pinfall or Submission.

I remember this one Rewriting The Book segment on Wrestlecrap asked what if D-X got into WCW Nitro at Norfolk Scope and it spiralled into ECW becoming bigger than the other two and basically being Ring of Honour in all but name.

@@616Entertainment Oh definitely. Its a good read but I find it unlikely that any sorta butterfly effect of Trips and the boys getting into Norfolk would have led to ECDub ruling the roost.

I was today years old when I found out ECW had wrestling games LOL. Warzone and Attitude was trash for me so these ECW games would’ve been the same. But I could wonder what an ECW game with AKI would’ve been like. 🤔 as always great content man, I quickly tap on any new video that pops up in my notifications from ya. Keep it up man!

Hardcore Revolution (on N64) was the 1st wrestling game I owned with Create a Wrestler, so I played it a ton and it was largely how I became familiar w ECW. I filled up tons of memory cards w CAWs. in create a wrestler mode you could make the controls for the moves more tolerable (simple). I played through career mode countless times. Oh to have had an AKI ECW game!

Very Disturbing that the ECW Fan Chant wasnt installed among any KEY features that should have been in a top 3 list of items to install.
@ShaunTheCHB3 жыл бұрын
The ECW games were somewhat poorer versions of WWF Warzone and Attitude. Anarchy Rulz was very much the better of the two because it had more options to play with and stuff for CAW, more match types. But gameplay wise both games were pretty much the same. I did enjoy putting my CAWs in the insane match types and letting the chaos commence. The match where you could burn up your opponent in lava surrounding the ring was hilarious. Now as for the ECW shows......Fun is the word I think of. ECW was fun. Crazy, violent, sexy and fun! It was wrestling that your mum and dad didn't want you to watch....but my parents let me anyways. :)

I'm actually willing to bet that Paul Heyman was the actual reason why these games were like this. I bet the designers offered either a full blown new creation or a rehash of attitude for cheap and ECW didn't have the cash to invest in that kind of risk so they went with the cheap option. I'td make sense because by 2000 it was publicly known there were financial issues and people were jumping ship to wcw wwf etc, so obviously Heyman would have known this before anyone. It was quick cash on the fading ECW brand, is what im saying.

I always thought while Taketwo has WWE license they should of had Rockstar make a truly great ECW game. But that's more Rockstar of the 2000s than the Rockstar now. Still wish someone would make one with all the elements that made ECW great.
@davidfrederick19713 жыл бұрын
10:44 into the video its disturbing to notice that the game doesnt feature the ECW fans chants "ECW, ECW, ECW". I remember when news reports that a video image company of somekind were at an ECW show recording the "hardcore fans" and their ECW chants to record for the up coming video game.
