I played this game when I was a kid. One thing I remember vividly is that Nod Artillary unpatched actually created real craters in the ground. They would alter the landscape. This sounds really cool and it was except that if say you clipped the side of a building the crater would go under the building. The game would then realize the building was improperly placed as there was not enough ground underneath it and the building would be destroyed. To add to that say you managed to fight off the artillary but they had still damaged your base. You would not be able to build anything on the crater because the building wouldn't fit in the space. So large swathes of land could be rendered unusable and you'd either have to give up or move base somewhere else.

Damn, I loved this game so much as a kid, I remember you could edit a txt file and get any unit in the game to Nod or GDI, or even make custom units. Sadly it always broke the AI to just build the GDI towers with no top on, :( but building mutant bases was my passion
@fromthefire41763 жыл бұрын
That’s why I used SunEdit2k back in the day, it let you mod easier and only broke the game most of the time as opposed to almost always lol. The coolest thing about General Solomon other than the fact that he is portrayed by James Earl Jones, is perhaps the fact that he was supposedly the player character of the GDI campaign in the previous game, at least according to the "CnC Bible" that Westwood made shortly after the release of Tib Sun. It's like the final form of the coolest 80s movie ever, a hybrid of Aliens and the future of Terminator, merged with a bit of Dune for spice (lol). Tiberian Sun is probably my favourite game in the series as well. The missions are interesting and the story feels more interesting than the Red Alert games. You also have really cool looking units and buildings. I loved building a base with asphalt on the ground and then laser fences and firestorm defences etc. it’s also very easy to mod the game. I remember modifying the XML file and added the pyramid into the game and a bunch of other stuff. There are other games in the series that are better in some aspects but Tib Sun has a feel that makes it feel epic in a way the others don’t really manage. Also it was the last game in the series to be released in a big box. I remember walking into the store and buying it. Reading the manual with all the units like I did with RA1. With RA2 coming in a boring old DVD case it lost something. Not to mention the gates. I love the gates. I always love building a base in these games and turtleing and being able to build a gate that automatically lowers for your troops just adds to the feeling. And there are several type of defensive walls that you can build defence in depth and make your enemy have to get through a killing zone to get into your base.

One of the things that always sticks out to me about this game is all the weird little map triggers and easter eggs. The "X-Mas Tree Farm" that displays the word "Scrooooooge!" if you blow it up on the final Nod mission. The blue colored civilians running laps in the mission where you have to test the Chemical Missiles. The lone civilian trapped on an iceberg in a lake on the mission where you blow up the Mammoth Mk2. The train that runs away and crashes into a GDI turret if you destroy the car blocking its path. Anyway, good video, I hope you do a video on Firestorm. Even though that expansion was a bit disappointing, it has some of the weirder C&C missions, that could make for a fun video.

I believe why Tiberian Suns atmosphere looks so pulling is maybe because it's environmental design tries to capture the train model landscape look. Because your mind actually sees it like something that is just protraying real life and this keeps it from slipping into the uncanny valley where everything that's not spot-on can break the immersion. I don't know if the environmental Artists for Tiberian sun had this in mind, but to me it absolutely gives me this feeling and it adds to the internal immersion of the game. I mean of course, when you have a generated map that is flat desert, there is none of that to be seen. But if you look at the hand crafted environments in some maps, especially the snow maps with their small cottages, that have a literal train running past them, maybe you can see what i am trying to say.

@LeoInterVir3 жыл бұрын
I really enjoyed Outpost 1, too bad that it was never finished before release or fully patched later. There is another obscure game called Millennium 2.2 (Return to Earth) that let's you put bases on planets and moon. You have send probes and ships out to collect resources and defend bases from attacks.

The nod sidemission for the Sarajevo is actually neat, you can get mammoth tanks to pretty much cheese the mission and it removes GDI attacks in the next mission which are massive waves of titans. Also shame that you didn't note that a few mission had alternate objectives in case of failure of primary like if you missed the train in the mission after hammerfest you would get a base and instead have to do a larger longer mission or in the jailbreak mission if u took too long or didn't capture the radar at the initial base Oxanna would be moved to the large base.
@lars99253 жыл бұрын
Yeah, as a child I even thought that the game wants the Commander to fail at first in order to do the actual mission and that the shortcut wasn't even possible.
@cropathfinder3 жыл бұрын
@@lars9925 Yeah tib sun was and still is ahead of how they did something. Not a lot of games let you fail or succeed on your own while having a backup option, much less letting you play that on the same mission. C&C was innovative like that and it goes back to tiberium dawn's first commando mission where you had to destroy a structure in the NOD base but didn't have the full orders as to which and if you got anything but the airfield you had to do an extra mission on that map to take out the full base

Honestly i will never understand Sci-Fi's love for walkers, like if you wanna take them out just hit them in the joints. Only role that i can think off where a walker would be good is as Scouting in wood lands since they can pretty mutch become improvised observation towers.
@DrWhite3 жыл бұрын
Funnily enough those reasons are exactly why gdi phases out walkers in TW3. It actually comes to haunt then as the walker design is better suited to red zone enviroments and battlefields - something not flaunts with their own walker

@@OverwatchSniper Yes but so is Tanks,APCS and IFV's and they make more sense as they dont have the same issues as a walker and is mutch cheaper to produce and can be alot more versitile in their roles.

Twisted Insurrection is a great mod, though it has some glitches and is vastly harder than TS. WarZone is another popular mod, but it instead focuses on graphics, balancing, and adding new units rather than changing everything like TI. Both are stand-alone.

Oh this is a fucking hilarious summary of the story overall, I lost my shit with that transition to the Nod Campaign. Though I must say I am surprise that you like the Nod Campaign more then the GDI campaign given how you seem to consider a few of the Nod missions as the worst in the game. Have to ask, given how Tiberian Sun is your favorite but what do you think of Tib Wars and Kane's Wrath?
@DrWhite3 жыл бұрын
Nods campaign has more fun missions than gdi, who have a lot of save scummy mutant commando and 'build army rush base' levels. TW and KW are pretty damn good, even if they're a lot less forgiving and mess with the plot a lot. Biggest mistake was making tib corrupted areas just weird crystal lands and not the alien landscapes of tibSun
@pyrosauria74443 жыл бұрын
@@DrWhite if there was ever a proper C&C 4, want to see the Forgotten to return as their own faction along with the weird Alien landscape. Could have it mix with the current crystal landscape to combine the two styles overall like “Tiberium Oasis” within the Red Zones. I mean they’re like the only other friendly group in the lore who can work with GDI while also have very interesting lore themselves so why not have them come back? Could even be super effective against the Scrin.

I did capture builded tanks and artilaries using enginners, only thing you need is to force the enginner to attack on the floor next to the builded vehicle, I remember there is a button to auto attack or something like that.
