What is your reason for using a snap swivel ahead of the crank bait? It seems like the added weight would throw off the action of the bait. I avoid using snaps or swivels unless needed to avoid line twist or for lure action (like a spoon).

It doesn't get much better than hooking into a large heavy Trout on light line!. I hooked a ten pounder on three pound line and spent an hour and a half 'playing' it!. Probably one of the most intensive fights I've ever had 😊. 'Rested' it for half an hour or so after netting to give it time to recover. Got abused by other fishermen because after taking pictures (pre mobile phone or go-pro vid technology) I released it, my reasoning due to its size and probable age it was a breeding fish. That fish was going to make sure future generations would have Brown Trout to catch.

It's funny how size is all relative to where you fish. I grew up in southwest WI and any trout over 14 inches is exceptional. Sometimes the DNR would let an expired breeder loose, just to give people a thrill. But the stream are less than half the size of the river in this episode. Over on Lake Michigan, a 14 inch brown trout is tiny.
