Elders require a level of care that can eventually be comparable to the care for children. The law doesn’t allow people to abandon children, or do you think that also should be legal?

@@Kierispet159 As an Asian who grew up in an Asian community for half my live, yes we do take care of our elders. There are many Asian households that has 3 generations under 1 roof. Most of us are raised to respect our elders. They raise us as children and we return the favor by helping them when they can no longer help themselves. Honestly though, every culture/race are plagued with a-holes who would abandon and rob their own family members. A-holes are a-holes.

The homeless situation is multifaceted. Too many people are grifters and do not want to work, period. I have tried on many occasions to help this population, and it is the most frustrating thing I've ever attempted. This poor woman got great help from the policeman, which is wonderful. She is not your average homeless person. Drugs, mental illness, and entitled young people are all a part of the problem. This must be addressed because the numbers are growing and no end is in sight.

I can imagine at least a few scenarios that I think would justify abandoning a family member like that. What if she was extremely racist or an abuser? Or maybe she is a sociopath or perhaps her family was murdered and they can not help not being there. Two sides to every story.

In general Chinese families take care of their elders, but each family has its own dynamics too. Some families are caring and loving and some are dysfunctional. There might be illness, mental illness, substance abuse, who knows?

Very touching, uplifting story and very warm of those city police officers who patrol dangerous streets and who encounter rudeness and criticism on a routine basis. That special lady who has been abandoned in such an insensitive way. I'm so grateful to listen to and to watch this beautiful human story. Not another tragic, sad ending; that is police work.

She could have early-onset Alzheimer’s and they don’t want to deal with it. My grandmother starting developing Alzheimer’s in her 60’s, but my mother is 89 and sharp as a tack. It varies quite a lot even in families.

People leave animals on the side of the road and people leave their grandmas, parents, and kids on the side of the road. The reality that this world has come to is beyond sad. If you are one of these people leaving lifes to fend for theirself then I hope your life becomes as horrible as the lifes you leave to suffer. Just like animals feel lost and confused so do humans. Thankful there's still good people trying to make a difference 🙏

To be honest I feel that this is such a burden to a young Asian American cop because he has enough struggles to climb the ladder and conquer professional challenge. There are tons of uneducated non English speaking Chinese grandparents in america, and all they did was work minimum wage jobs all their lives. It is really no one else's responsibility but them and their families.

Caretataking can be stressful and overwhelming, but I couldn't imagine living with knowing that I left a family member - or even an acquaintance with no other resources - out on the street. Glad she's OK, this could have ended VERY badly for her, sending prayers of gratitude for the officer who intervened on her behalf.

I don't know how anyone can do this. My mom is high maintenance and when she calls I dread it but I still take care of her because my conscience gets the best of me every time. If I even think of saying no it will bother me to the point I can't sleep so I go see her.
