This not only helps the children, but it also helps the prisoners. They get to feel love. They get to feel human. You can't lock people up and expect them to retain their humanity. They need to have the chance to feel that. THAT is what will help them reintegrate into society when they get out.

That’s part of why I appreciate the prison system in my country, Norway. It emphasizes reform and in turn among criminals there’s a high percentage of one-time offenders who serve their time and stay out afterwards, instead of going in and out of prison.

@@ThatGreenCrystal That greatly depends on the level of security the inmates require. My dad served time in a high security prison, which more so resemble prisons in the US. When he was later transferred to a low security prison he got decent meals, got to watch TV, his kids and wife could visit, we could even apply for a certain amount of time where he got to spend time with us outside of prison, like a 24 hour period (sometimes less, sometimes more). He was also allowed to get a job and work if he was monitored by either an ankle monitor or someone who worked in the prison. He wasn’t considered a flight risk or a threat to himself or others so he was given more leniency there than if he had stayed in the high security and clearly wasn’t trustworthy.

I've volunteered with them twice (once inside the prison, once outside for low-level offenders) and it's truly such a remarkable organization. Yes, it's for the kids, but the dads are treated with deep dignity and respect- they're not known by their wrongdoings but as their identities as human beings and fathers. It's a weird and humbling dynamic and I wish more people had the opportunity to experience this group's mission.
@brandonizaguirre29634 жыл бұрын
@@annasloan2472 Yeah, and I bet you also treat r@pists and murderers as decent human beings just because they have children and you ignore what they did in the first place, huh? @omgubler4 жыл бұрын
@@brandonizaguirre2963 wow, what the hell man. It's never as simple as that and you should know it. Also, I'm pretty sure there's an extremely heavy screening processes for the prisoners/fathers that get to participate. I'm sure they have to have impeccably good behavior to earn the opportunity and much more. Every case is unique. The father who was a murderer was in a bar fight. It was probably an unintentional murder. Still murder, yes, but it was probably something like involuntary manslaughter. (alcohol + bar fights don't go good together). A rapist would be unlikely to participate in something like this that, again, is FOR THE KIDS more than anything else. Hopefully you at least have sympathy for the children.

This program needs to be in every prison. Breaks my heart. Yes, children are the silent victims and they need their fathers and their fathers need them. Just because a man’s incarcerated doesn’t mean his ability to love and parent his kids stops. It doesn’t mean that he is not a good parent. These types of programs benefit both parent and child and helps to foster self-worth and attachment.
@jlinaanon37925 жыл бұрын
I absolutely agree with you on that. My ex husband has been in jail for almost a year now and it breaks my heart that my daughter is the one who showed me this video. I'm heartbroken right now and there's nothing I can do to help her. My fiance passed away from brain cancer 2 weeks before her father was arrested and she was just as close to him as she is with her father so she has been through so much. Unfortunately the jail doesn't allow any contact other than video chat or phone calls which cost more for 10 minutes than most people where we live make per hour. The children involved are the ones who are suffering the most and I hope that more facilities will have programs like this one available to help the children not punish them too.

I'm a person who has been benefited from one day with god. As a kid i never knew my dad like that. I only knew him by his voice and by his jpay messages. I never knew what it was like to have a daddy daughter dance. When i first heard that i was going to see my dad for the first time since i was 4 it had GREATLY affected my mental health i was in TEARS like my mom told me i was going to a program called " one day with god" I was full on SOBBING ( she has told me inside of a restaurant and everybody was staring i didnt care nor notice though). you never realize how much you love and miss your dad until you see him. When i first went to that program we had mentors and i remember them telling me when i see him come out of those doors i need to run so fast and jump into his arms and MAKE SURE he falls over and guess what i did and it felt so good to finally hug my dad. after that we ate cake, made a bunch a drawings, made a goal book, made this lamp thingie, and we had a dance, and at the end we released balloons and i got these gifts from my dad i had got a portrait of us, a blanket with the words " dear, (my name) i know how hard it can be to not have me there with you so whenever you miss me just hug this blanket and remember i always love you

This type of interaction will lower recidivism rates and will help to keep kids from being inmates themselves, which is unfortunately a statistic. We should follow Norway's prison system's example. They live in apartments instead of cells and have jobs. The "guards" eat with them, work with them and treat them like humans instead of animals. Their recidivism rate is much lower than ours in America. Not only that, but having worked in jails, I think a lot of them - especially the privately run for profits - don't provide the healthcare and other needs. I had a woman lie on the ground crying for hours and no one from the med clinic would check on her. She had been scheduled for surgery when arrested a couple days earlier. They finally took her to a different jail that had a hold on her. Another victim of being poor. It was a Correctional Centers of America run jail.

My father went to prison when I was 7. I am 37 now. November 2019 he passed away in prison. The last time I saw him was behind a glass door after his 40 year sentence. When I saw him again he was in a casket and being buried in a prison cemetery. Fathers please realize how important you are to your children and the impact your actions have on them. My mother asked me if I had a picture of my dad three days ago. I said no. She sent me a pic of him and told me he was the love of her life and that his actions destroyed our family. She told me that my dad always loved me. I have biracial children and unfortunately he was racist so for years we did not speak. When I heard he was dying I sent him pics of all my children my husband and our dog and told him I always loved him. He never responded to me and passed away. Out of his 4 children I was the only person with my children who attended his funeral. I never lost love for my dad even after all the things he did and said. I couldn’t mourn him to anyone. This really hit home because all I ever wanted all these years was to see my dad again. Do the best you can for your children please.

It is when your dad has lied to you and he knows your hurting and he knows what he did was wrong. Then he says he won’t do it again. Then he does. So yea it is mean when you are in her situation. And she knows it and she doesn’t deserve to go through that

Watched my great nephew grow closer to his Dad as his prison sentance neared the end. He was 10 when he got out and loved connecting with him and finding out they both were artists. The father went to live with my sister the boy's grandmother and we thought he was on his way only to return to his thieving, drugging ways eventually disappearing breaking my great nephews heart. Now my great nephew has a son but he doesn't know how to be Dad so the family is all pitching in to try and help him learn how important the bond is needed and wanted.

My absolute best friend for the past 10 years had both his mother and father werelocked up when he was 9 years old and whenever his mom would call from inside it was amazing how much effort she put into being apart of his life. She would get to know all his friends and would always make him happy. His mom got out 3 years ago and she’s one of the best human beings I’ve ever met. I honestly think of her as a second mom.

They should use this to see if prisoners ever get another chance in the future. If they continue the same bad path after this, there's probably no hope and we should concentrate on people who deserve a chance!
@brandon89002 жыл бұрын
@@22lyric used to work in the prison system and you are all extremely naive. The majority of people I saw were multiple repeat offenders with rap sheets multiple pages long. The majority are in and out of jail for life, their kids do not motivate them to change because if they did they wouldn't have committed the crime that landed them there in the first place.
