Opening Day in Northern MN went the same way.. Saw some young bucks and does but to far for the deer catcher. Had a chickadee land on my scope and barrel in the tree stand a few times, a first for me. It's a bonus just enjoying the time walking the woods, sitting in a deer stand or blind watching all the wildlife. Like the journal idea. Keep up with all the great videos.

If you’re going to put a feeder out there for the wildlife, please don’t forget a salt/mineral block for them. When I lived in Kansas in the 70’s, I put one out there and they darn near went through a whole block in one season. Guess they needed it. Love your videos and your projects.

Mike I loved being with you just watching the deer I live in Ohio and our gun season starts Monday I will not be going out hunting I hunted last year with my 17 year old daughter Allison we had a great time she missed a nice 8 point and I took a large doe then in April she was killed in an auto accident and today is her birthday she would be 20 we will be lighting a Christmas tree in honor of her and have open it for all our community we like in a small town with about 2800 so every one knows everyone and we have them place an ornament for a love one they are missing this time of year so being out with you made my day May God bless you and your family and thank you it took some time away from the low today

Saw 5 myself yesterday. I'm holding 2 2B Doe tags. Passed on yearling Doe. Any day you see game, it's a great hunt. Your journal, we call a camp log. Ours goes back to 1934.

Kind of nice to see Pittsburgh. Used to drive a truck there every day to deliver milk from the Ohio Valley for a time. The things you could see sitting in traffic on Green Tree Hill sometimes. Wife and I flew into the airport a few weeks ago. Miss the green forest everywhere. Been out west for over thirteen years now and will probably never live back east again, but whitetail hunting and the lush green forest could possibly lure us back. Then again the Rocky Mountains tend to get into your soul and it would be hard to leave here.

You are fortunate to have that much wildlife around. I live on an island that was hunted out over 100 years ago when it comes to deer. The biggest wild creature we have around is coyote and they are resent arrivals.

Way to go Hunter! When Hunter wants Burger King, He is going to get there for a spicy chicken and then out at the cabin with the deer and having a journal to log what was seen and so on then there was the big city, man what a Christmas tree! Then when you two stopped at the Milkshake place, that done it right there. You guys are after my heart. I'm like Hunter, Burger King is my shrine then when it comes to milkshakes then that's something else. My what a super cool video. I wish I can hit the like button a dozen times on this one. I enjoyed the scenery out in the woods, enjoy seeing my buddy Hunter going for his and mine favorite place then going to the big city. What a better way to have a day. We're here in the High Country near Boone NC out to the west side of town are suppose to get a bit of snow overnight into Monday and maybe a little Tuesday. Talking about 1 to up to 6 inches plus. Wow! I love to go on my mountain after a big snow. Love it. Snow up there is not bothered and it's like in a dream land of sorts. I used to play up there when I was a kid coming off that mountain after dark in the moonlight when skies were clear. Love the outdoors and this video was one of the best for it being this time of year. I enjoyed it. OK, I'm going to hit that like button no doubt. I usually forget to dang it but not this time. The journal is a wonderful idea. Been thinking about your reasons for no cross bracing and I agree. However you still need to protect against racking and you could use corner braces just like on timber/barn framing. Your structure will last much longer. Absolutely beautiful video at the ice rink.

I remember seeing huge groups of deer when I was younger too. Our group would all get huge bucks. We had tower stands similar to what there is today. Last year I built a hunting shack that the kids can tag along and stay warm and have fun. Need to keep them interested.

I remember those days of which you speak. Not so long ago you really took your life in your own hands on the first day. There always seemed to be news reports of people being shot. I remember one where a guy was just walking down the street and a stray bullet found him and that was it. I also remember up around Slippery Rock where the one farmer used to paint "cow" on the side of his cows in fluorescent orange to keep them from getting shot..glad to hear that it's changed for the better.

Really nice views out the windows Mike. The trees are pretty thick there. If a really big buck came along and didn't stop much, it could be hard to get a shot off. Maybe cut some trees for some shooting lanes out to 100 years or so - just a thought. We have a Big Buddy Heater also but don't have to use it too much down here in south eat Texas. The tank and hose up is a great idea.Nice dinner, tree, skating ring and lights in the city for date night.

Wow you saw a lot of deer. Your choice of location is excellent for the condo. Watch out for furry visitors as it is not sealed up yet. Making your life partner happy is also necessary. I hunted most of the day without seeing much as I have limited mobility but was great getting out. hunter you are looking great.

yeah in the 80's it was boom boom boom! deer running everywhere! Dad and all my uncle's would put on 10 man drives. Running shots where all you got. Now I own my own farm and I to love the slower pace of hunting.

Love the context shots with the view of deer through the cabin windows and gradual zoom. Number of hunters has sharply declined in the U.S. since the '50s when I hunted with my dad. According to 2016 Fish & Game survey, more anglers, far less hunters. Only about 11 million hunters registered now, annually, nationwide vs. 5 times that mid-20th Century. The White River Elk herd (Colorado -- Biggest herd in North America, including Canada) numbered 12,000 individuals in 1950; it's now pushing 50,000. Number of anglers and "photographic hunting" has been on the rise for decades, but far fewer meat harvesters. Anti-gun sentiment, coupled with rising costs and Congressional Acts (Pittman-Roberston Act) prohibits the use of tax revenues being used to promote hunting, but approves promotion efforts for fishing and other activities. Good chance Mike is witnessing less pressure on game in PA is because hunting is dying, which is sad for America, sad for our youth, and sad for healthy game. Sooo happy to see my Big Buddy Hunter got His BK meal. He seems sooo happy when He is hanging with Papa Bear, Lol !!! I'm not much into Deer hunting but I love Me some Rabbit hunting tho. Just drove back from Mom's house in Monticello Ga to Charlotte NC. On Highway 83, I saw 4 very Big Deers, scattered along the way, about 15 ft from the rode at 2:00 am. Luckily they stayed Put !!! I was cautiously driving, Praying they would not run out into the rode. That would Not been Good. Do Y'all do anything Special or Mount those silent whistles for the Deers ??? Mike, looks like you had an enjoyable opening day! Before you use an adapter on the buddy heater, do a little research. Sounds like it’s important to use the Mr Heater brand hoses and/or an inline filter to filter out the oils that leach out of the hoses. That oil will plug up the burner or elements or something.

Same here in regards to hunting pressure. I could tell how far the deer were away from me from the gun shots. If I only heard one shot I knew someone hit something but most times it was three shot bursts as other hunters emptied their shotguns at the running deer.
