good job and they are NOT suicide doors . the trim you were having problem with ,all you have to do is cut a v notch in both sides of the trim were it turns , the v notch should almost be cut all the way through so when you bend the trim it form a miter joint like a picture frame. AND for poor old GENERAL your dog you can a window opening in the door and put a piece of pexiglass for the window, and if your afraid of getting it all scraped up put a piece of wire mesh sandwiched between the door and pexiglass
@ironheadbiker2 жыл бұрын
The suicide doors I was referring to, are the ones Superatv sells. They hinge at the rear. I'm not a fan of those. I changed my hinges to the stainless lift off hinges. No pin to pull (they're a male/ female connection) and they literally come off in 2 seconds. Great tip on the notching the trim. I appreciate it.

You did a really good job making those doors for your utv, and I see they fit perfect. If it will rattle while driving, then you could put rubber around it for both sealing and remove rattle sounds. But it will keep a lot of dust outside cabin while driving I guess.
@ironheadbiker3 жыл бұрын
Thanks and I will definitely do videos while I ride. They're very quiet, I have rubber foam tape on the one place they rub. My old side by side was notorious for dust, like most are, because of the opening by the foot well behind the front tire. Time will tell but they already beat those nets all to hell
@ArcticExploring3 жыл бұрын
@@ironheadbiker I did at first commenting before I was finished watching your video, and I heard you did mention while riding that you was already talking about rubber seal. Absolutely Impressed. With the doors, your channel, your machine. I just came across your videos the other day. Lmk if you start selling then because I would buy a set off you. Only thing I think needs some improvement is the hood latch how you have to lift and hook the door. Why not just put a pin and breakaway latch similar to the superatv doors? Other than that they seem to hold up beautifully and They are sleek and very nice. Keep the videos rollin man. Great Job
@ironheadbiker3 жыл бұрын
The big thing is wanted to remove them easily. I now changed the design where it's a lift off hinge like a jeep. No pin just lift up and they're off. I work around the house a lot and the doors is a pain in the ass when I'm getting in and out all the time. Thanks for the kind words and yes I'm trying to perfect them to sell them.
@ironheadbiker3 жыл бұрын
And you are absolutely right about the latch. That's my big problem. Their's opens suicide, so the latch is easier to mount to a hard point. I don't want suicide doors, so it's tough coming up with a good hard point to mount a stud. But that's the direction I'm going. I misread your initial post. Thought you were talking about my hinge instead of the latch. I redesigned the door frame so I don't have to weld anything, redesigned the door mount using 1/4" plate, so I don't have to weld there, added stainless steel lift off hinges, so no pins to remove. Now I just need a good solid latch point and opener mechanism. It's hard because in the back side of the roll bar its all surrounded by plastic, I'm trying to avoid making a latch mounting bracket but I think I'm going to have to. I'm trying to keep my costs down so I can have a very competitive price. Kinda like the cfmoto brand. Cheap but effective. Except the American in me says strong thick steel! Lol.
@mattthomson68383 жыл бұрын
Yeah I see what you are saying. Anyway I think you could really make some money if you market them correctly because really the only option at the moment is $800 on superatv doors. Now for the stainless steel hardware going through the plastic straight into the tube frame on the inside. Are they just screwed into the conduit or did you go through the conduit and put a nut. Curious how you did that
@ironheadbiker3 жыл бұрын
Actually just used half round conduit clamps. At the hinge I double sided 1/8 plate steel. Then just used 3/8" bolts with vinyl nuts to hold everything on. Doors are very lightweight

Thanks man, yeah I'm very happy. Refining them here and there to make fabrication easier to duplicate. For example a better hinge style, (I love how easy they are to remove for around the house), and a better latching system. The cost (without labor) might go up around $150 per door, but the time I'll save will be worth it. Then might put them up for sale. I've had several (over 20) inquires, so I thought let's give er a try.

How did you make the latch and measure the cutout?
@ironheadbiker10 ай бұрын
The latch I used a rubber hood latch that hooks onto a stud. The cutout I used a piece of cardboard, held it against the opening from the outside, went to the other side and got into the cab and traced it roughly. Then cut along the lines I traced and just slowly trimmed a little bit more each time until it fit the opening perfectly, then used a grease pen and traced the cardboard door onto the plastic I used. It was pretty easy. I just needed a good sized cardboard box that I unfolded to cover the whole opening.

I also moved my latch to inside on the base of the seat, I put some hdpe plastic through those two existing bolts, and arced it out towards the door, then mounted a spring bolt pin facing down. Left the passenger side with the bungi. Both work great, the lower mount used less metal and no hook left behind when the door is off. Both very effective and have held up great. Might tinker with a winter style for next.

Yeah it's ridiculous whet these companies want for them, and you can't remove them easily. I'm not a fan of the suicide style either, just like their new full doors. You can only pop the window open about 2-3 inches, and they're suicide style also. I wonder if any of these "engineers" actually use them. I really like using the HDPE plastic. I've since learned it's very "form-able" when heated. Made my blinker light mounts from the scrap of my doors. Just heated them and molded them around a formed piece of wood. Then cooled them quick in front of my A.C. in my garage. Very strong. But yeah, new "winter doors" with a open/ close window is next. I'd love to see the pictures. Ironhead2542@gmail.com is my email.

Yes i actually am. I'm in the process of setting up my shop, and fine tuning the design. I get to go test ride them this weekend, so that will be fun. I know of a few changes I'll be making already, but between this and my dog's shotgun rider seat, I've had quite a few inquiries to where I'll pursue it farther. I'm a truck driver by trade, but one thing I've learned is that most effective tools or pieces of equipment were made by somebody who actually uses the stuff and makes something with that rarest of ingredients...... common sense. Thanks for the inquiry, and I'll be working as best as I can to get something setup, to where I can make them quickly but well made also.
