633 Squadron - Opening scene and theme tune

Opening scene to the 1963 war movie '633 Squadron' - one of my all time favourite war movies which has what can only be described as one of the best theme tunes ever composed. I even decided to leave in the bit where the aircraft land too, as I love the sound of those engines. Although the movie has a few 'questionable' special effects (yet significantly better effects than the later 'Mosquito Squadron' which is terrible), it is nonetheless an awesome movie and one which any war movie buff must have in their collection - otherwise they're not a true war movie buff!

My dad did all the radio stuff on those brilliant planes, brings a tear to my eye every time I hear the theme. He was a true hero.

Those engines are Rolls Royce Merlins. One of the greatest piston aero engines They also poweres The Spitfire and The Lancaster Bomber

I remember seeing this flick when it first showed in the theaters in 1963. Love the air photography and the Merlin egines! One question. As the aircraft arrive over the airfield at 4:11, the first element of three break left for a left-hand pattern; at 4:17 the next element breaks for a right-hand pattern. Ooops! Can we envision both elements turning into each other on final? :-) Again, a great flick for the day when it was made. Still watch it!
