For a second I thought you were going to scallop the *whole* fretboard, like Yngwie Malmsteen was going to be shredding on it.

Both work just fine. I just turn mine upside down and rotate it diagonally, parallel with the nut and it screws up like a dream.

532nd subscriber LIKE; 2,045th desktop view - that mando looks very similar to my 'not-so-expensive' Rover RM-75 - which sounds and plays fine since it's been fitted with a deer antler saddle... no pickguard on mine. Anxious to see/hear how this one sounds. Like a twin.

buddy I know what you mean about easier 40 years ago! I took the banjo back up and practice it everyday for a year and 3 months now and STILL am nowhere near where I used to play it, let it lay 30 years and considering letting it lay another 30! lol btw first video of yours I watched in a while on computer, I usually watch them on big screen but can't comment from there.

Confession time: Sometimes I use a regular crescent wrench when I really should use a metric crescent wrench.
@neilfromclearwaterfl81

To solve that problem I made one that had a metric crescent wrench on one end and SAE on the other. It has to be true since I even stamped Metric on one end and SAE on the other. ;> Best!

@@zapa1pnt On the one I made up as a gag sadly too many thought it was really needed and didn't understand the joke. It did allow you to adjust to two different sizes at the same time with one wrench though which is convenient in some situations but... Best!

As a classical mandolinist, it sort of breaks my heart a little to see those "decoration" frets being yanked out like that. Or even watching the "Florida" cut off. Yea, I really do play up there on those tiny spaced frets, same way a violinist does high on the fingerboard. I play on a regular F4 style archtop, not a tater bug, and while I know you bluegrass folks don't think much of them, those little high frets are a big part of the music I play. Any way, another excellent vid, Jerry, always something to learn from your work!

Jerry, my dad...used to drink too much, then play & sing that little ditty: but his lyrics weren’t “G” rated. Something about an unafraid Indian maid named Mabel, a young cowboy, and a unexpected & unwanted pregnancy.......followed by the chorus. That referred to the moon, and a part of Mabel it shone upon. I was wondering if you ever knew or heard of that version? 😁 Great video, you do amazing work!👍👍👍👍

When you sand or grind down a fret board or nut, if you keep the dust you create, you can mix it with the glue or paste you will use for filler and match the color with it....
@RosaStringWorks

I did that for years and years and it sucks because the glue and the sawdust shrinks and shrinks and shrinks and shrinks

Would you ever scallop the board of an electric? I didn’t want to post here because because I’m figuring you have an email for service requests but I couldn’t resist asking because I’ve wanted to play a scalloped board again for years. I did my own before with an Ibanez but I no longer have the tools and don’t want to chance my current line up.

@Anonymous-fh1zq
@Anonymous-fh1zq Жыл бұрын
If I’m correct, I believe it’s due to the fact that those frets are never actually used and create unwanted vibrations when plucking the strings. So people decide to remove those frets and scallop that part of the board. Hope this helps.
