For changing the timeline res, go to playback and then playback res. I'd be really interested to see some 3d benchmarks. Houdini, Maya, Blender, Nuke, Fusion.

You're getting some slowdown caused by something else, can't identify from here, but something is causing your H264/5 to slow down, as a normal 3090 on its own handles that without issue, as would a 2080, plenty of lower cards. Perhaps NVLink is confusing it or something. This performance in nearly every aspect is significantly worse than I get on a 3970X and Titan RTX lol so this isn't really a great measurement of the hardware itself.
@theTechNotice
@theTechNotice 2 жыл бұрын
100% agreed, and very surprising results! It just shows that more money doesn't always mean more performance. Also not all of the h.264/5 codecs I'm trying have hardware accelerated support on Resolve. A lot of them have to use software playback instead. But this is surprising to me because a 12900k setup will perform much better in 99% of the cases 😇🤔

Did you compare performance with and without the NVbridge? If memory serves, Black Magic suggest not running dual GPU's in bridge mode. Would you do a follow-up with render speeds with various codecs? Rendering is where Resolve will really stress test a system. I have almost identical system (non-linked 3090's) and the first thing that became clear was that Resolve (17) doesn't seem to be optimized to handle this much system power. It's still an amazing system but during renders I'm seeing 30-50% available CPU, GPU and hard drive (RAID) bandwidth. The system is still rendering at over 400+fps but those unused resources come with a significant price tag. My spidey-sense tells me that the 32-core Threadripper might offer similar performance at a MUCH lower price tag.

Hello, I am currently a user with two 3090 GPUs connected via NVLink. I primarily use the computer for gaming and streaming/recording. The first graphics card is dedicated to gaming, while the second one is used for streaming/recording. When it comes to video editing, I activate NVLink for the task. I'm planning to upgrade to a 4090 graphics card, and I'm curious if there will be any noticeable difference in performance. Thank you!

Why haven't you upgraded to 18 yet? They've already released a couple of updates and it's now very stable (the initial release of 18 wasn't). This system has an impressive spec but I get the feeling it is well beyond the point of diminishing returns. You can probably pay a lot less for only a small decrease in performance. My 12600K seems to handle DaVinci Resolve fine and I haven't even invested in a separate GPU yet.

That is an awesome rig !! You will get much better timeline performance if you will render the timeline after each resolution change. Especially when going up in resolution. I know that you are trying to keep the system at a base line but the system has to have the time perform the calculations and build the new resolutions that you have chosen for each timeline. No trying to insult. I just know how frustrating these issues can be. Trust me. Render the timeline after each, timeline resolution change. Your scrub through and playback will thank you.

64 Cores (that dont get used at all) and 2 huuuge GPUs and it still gets laggy the moment one uses a video codec thats not truly supported in hardware. yet the camera it was recorded on or a smartphone have no problems decoding it real time with single digit watts drawn because they have the right en/decoders built into it. Its a shame that there is no way to add true hardware acceleration with a small and cheap add-in card to current pc systems.

@@edh615 The funny thing is that most professional editors working in high end productions use old Avid systems running on obsolete computers with no problem at all. Video editing is not about performance, in one hand it is about creativity, and in the other hand about having an efficient collaborative workflow with other production departments. Having more performance is always desirable buy it is really a secondary aspect

First! I love your content bro! One of my favs! Just want to say, I have built some systems before where money was no object top of the top everything and non of those machines have [EVER] beaten my best performing systems, which are still top of the line components but not necessarily balls to the walls build. Basically in my personal experience it is never a dollar per dollar best results type of thing. Some components just play along better with each other even if they are not the top spec, they may just be configured in a more compatible more efficient way. Also, I want to share that the marketing from the manufacturers is never optimized in the way that it sold to us, meaning that one is best served by trying out the set ups and optimizing the settings rather than believing the main stream hype 🥸

I have 1 question, can we use a different VGA in one pc? like Geforce and Quadro in one Pc?
@MacCheetah3
@MacCheetah3 2 жыл бұрын
NVIDIA: "We recommend against using GeForce and Quadro cards in the same system as it may cause unpredictable results. As such this is not considered a supported configuration. 1. GeForce and Quadro cards are intended for very different usages (GeForce cards are intended for recreational usage and Quadro cards are intended for professional usage). As a result, GeForce and Quadro drivers have different features available in the NVIDIA Control Panel. If you use both GeForce and Quadro cards simultaneously, it is unpredictable which Control Panel features will be available and how they will function. 2. When using two or more NVIDIA cards in the same system, both cards need to use the same NVIDIA driver to avoid conflicts. As stated in 1 above, GeForce and Quadro drivers support different Control Panel features and it is unpredictable which features will be available and how they will function if the same driver is used for GeForce and Quadro cards."
