What a wonderful class 🙏Contrasting Advaita Vedanta to Mahayana Buddhism does add a new dimension to the spiritual practice. I like it when Swamiji pointed out that the Mahayana tradition does not see Buddha as divine so enlightenment becomes more realistic for human beings. It's just that the teachings of Advaita Vedanta have more "pillars" that can make it more realistic to get enlightened. Makes me feel grateful that I came across these teachings when there's a sea of different interpretations out there. Thank you, Swamiji! 🙏

The original teachings were known as Theravada (Way of the Elders) anyway, the story goes that Mahayana came about somewhere in the first century BCE long after the death of the Buddha. The Mahayana school of Buddhism broke away from the original as their interpretations of the teachings differed and it has been said they wanted to make changes in the teachings. These 2 schools of Buddhism do vary. Like all teachings there are many different interpretations out there as you have noted.

Fascinating! This is the truth beyond conventional thinking. Buddhism is based on the thinking of human beings and therefore limited by the capacity of human mind.

Sorry swami but Ananda Cooamaraswamy has proved that Buddhism is Hinduism for export. It’s not culturally specific.
