You hit my hot button again this week with MJQ. Originally the group was part of Dizzy Gillespie's big band and in the beginning was Klook, Ray Brown, Bags and John Lewis. The full band played so fast and loud and took long solos etc. that they needed someone to spell them. Hence the quartet, which became very popular as an intermission act. When the full band broke up the quartet kept going. A couple of years into it, Percy Heath replaced Brown and Connie Kay replaced Kenny Clark. The group became the longest running jazz ensemble of all time. They also played to more live audience attendees than any other performers ever. If you listen to any of their recordings you will hear that they never played the same tune that same way twice and in their own understated way they always swung like crazy.

A joy to hear you speak on music & life as always. Keep addressing the reality of what America was & is. So many live in a bubble & don't realize the grim reality that people of Color have & continue to live with. That the beautiful music that they enjoy comes from centuries of pain & oppression. A lot of White folks use the word woke as a curse or an insult but as George Carlin said once " They call it the American Dream because you have to be asleep to believe it."

Jazz Tracks is one of my fave Miles’ albums. Still underrated in my opinion.

Great great video !!! The second side of Miles was the first release of then on 1979 edition of "1958 Miles", edited only in Japan by the way. They added an extra long track that it was never been released before.

@@TheJazzShepherd I'm sorry, they added 2 tracks, not one, Love For Sale and Little Melonae, a total of 20 minutes. The Japanese saved Jazz Music since the 70's.

In the 70’s we were told we were facing an imminent oil shortage, turns out we have 400 years of oil, we were also told there would be worldwide famine in the immediate future, when was the last time there was a concert for Bangladesh? Now we are told by our leaders in the space of approximately 100 years, two countries, England and America, through factories and cars put this planet in jeopardy, this doesn’t even pass the smell test. For this climate change idea to pass from theory to generally understood acceptance would be to ; one, have a unanimous consensus from all scientists not just the ones relying on government funding and two show us something more than computer models guessing at the past and future events. By the way we may be on opposing ideas but your knowledge of jazz is absolutely why I’ll keep visiting. Btw regarding your current economic troubles I’ve been there, this too shall pass. Praying for you brother
