I did a couple pours last week in my basement. I was worried it was to cold down there so I cranked my space heater while I was working. I went down to look at them this morning and they cracked really badly. I was so sad because they all looked amazing when I finished. But I used your technique of filling them with gold. Omg they look even better!! I was about to just toss them and cut my loss. Thanks so much

Hi annemarie, thankyou for your wonderful art videos. I painted a big 50cm x 40cm mandala style painting about 6 months ago and sprayed it with gloss varnish. One day I noticed loads of cracks mainly in the black background. Was heartbroken. Not sure why but I sprayed the back/underside of canvas with water and left for an hour. To my amazement almost all the cracks in the paint have gone. Wondered if this tip might help someone. Many thanks Carol

I have a 55x55 inch commission and I left it out in my garage too long and it cracked from the cold. I was freaking out because I didn't know what to do; but since I already used gold this would blend in so well. You saved me!

It’s a beautiful piece very stunning. I just had to show recently and the piece that took the most interest and the people felt drawn to it was one that had cracked when I rub the gold over it they loved it it was this piece was just so beautiful

No putting that gold in the cracks is brilliant! That looks amazing and doesn't look like you did it on purpose. Made the picture pop even more! Thanks for the tip! I have one right here I am going to do that to with metallic silver. It is a mix of black, brilliant blue and like a sky blue. But it was my very first acrylic pour (and I tried soooo hard) level canvas area... perfect consistency in the paint. I think I was TOO careful and just blew my mojo or something. I even used the torch to pull out the bubbles. I saw NO bubbles but when it dried it had tons of pits. "sniffle" I suppose the paint was thicker in some places than other? I just don't know because I was SO careful. too careful obviously. lol. I thought it was all even but alas. Thanks so much!

Sometimes I'll force mine to crack so I can fill them in with other colors like you did. I know a lot of ppl think that cracks mean "bad art" but I believe that sometimes it adds beauty to the texture and layers.

I absolutely love this idea and I just did a pour that is drying with big cracks in it and I can’t wait to try and rescue it with the gold paint. I don’t even know how it happened since I do the pours in my kitchen where I never have any heating on. 🤷‍♀️

Cool solution to cracking! Love the way the piece turned out. Wow, the varnish made everything pop. Looking at the piece, I wonder what a Mandela stenciled in gold behind your pour might look like. Of course, you’d have to start with dried background.

Reminds me of Kintsugi, the Japanese tradition of fixing cracks in ceramic with gold. I've got a couple of pieces with cracking, I'll have to try that with it. Thanks for the cool idea.

For that painting I actually love the cracks since it's only in the blue it looks intentional and awesome. Remember beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And I would want it that way more than uncracked.

This was really helpful. I am going to try to save an old panel that i was going to chuck. Am thinking of fixing the cracks and use it as a back ground for someting else. Have you ever poured over a painting and leaving some of the old one showing?

Esmeralda Arboix - yes. I love the crackle. I use a product in the states called crackle medium. It is applied to the background paint. Let dry then paint a top color. The crackle medium causes the top color to separate. There is one for large and fine crackle.
