Warren, doing your own thing is key. Fact is, in this field, it takes a different skill set. My compliments, sir! Years ago, I did just that. Started a motorcycle shop, at 18 years old, and it was off to the races! Doubled the size of the shop..twice. But I was young. Learned the realities of the business, and partnerships. Difference was, I wasn't greedy. I moved on and went into the fire service, after a few years building carburetors. Had some great experiences. Fast forward a few years...turned in my wings as a fire captain (for my three girls) and went back to my hobby and passion, spinning wrenches. Love your comments about dealership problems, I've seen plenty of that. Not all dealership mechanics are hacks, some of us push on with life... I enjoy dealing with the problems that have the guys stumped...and work on the heavy equipment as my hobby, tractors and buses. Love watching your approach, and your dialog while working speaks to the heart, brother! Keep on doing it just like you do!!

Your Cat dealership was just being a rational actor: they felt that you would be a quick study and move on and "dummy" never had that option. I faced this several times in my youth, even being told I was too good and would eventually be competition. The fact that the mediocre succeed should not surprise a soul and the fact that mediocrity becomes the product isn't considered. Best!

That’s what I’ve got is a 8’x8’ steel bench and it works great for engines. I put jacks with wheels on them on each corner so I can jack it up and down different heights. Biggest thing is keeping it cleaned off. A flat surface in a shop gets filled up pretty quick. Engine stands are ok for little motors but I like my steel table for the bigger engines

Hey Warren, I hear you brother. Went down that road with the old line, "your too qualified" (you would think that this was a "good thing", that should improve their profit margin by getting the work out quicker with fewer post repair issues) well guess not. My issue was the "nephew" of the owner, the kid was a "tool", nice enough kid, but damn he was rough on tools, equipment, trucks. It wasn't his, and so it didn't matter how it was treated, till it was broken, then it was everyone else's fault. As for the trolls, there's 5 or 10 on every page post (usually the guys who have never really "done it" but seem to know the chapter and verse on getting it done, and are at the ready to correct you at the drop of a hat). I go back to my previous comment about the pressed coveralls, working in the air conditioned shop, with the pretty safety lines on the floor around all the machines. Never would they be able to go out in the field and "figure it out" without the internet connection and the fresh cup of coffee and a doughnut. Ignore them, we, the few who like watching your videos, actually "get it" cause we have, at some point in time "been there" and "done that" (or really close to it) so we relate with you. It's all cool brother, don't sweat the small stuff, we know where your coming from and will back you in our comments each and every time.. Cheers!

You have to have thick skin to put videos out ....i try not to acknowledge the non sense and the haters. it seems to bother the the good viewers when i do.....i appreciate everything you take the time to show. i have done many engines on there back like this one and they are still going strong today..i prefer putting cams and balancing shafts in with the engine siting up that way. easier to direct it without damaging bearings......i find most people who leave those comments either dont do anything or they work for a big company that can afford to buy all the proper fixtures because they do them day in and day out.

Just curious. When installing rear engine seal with flywheel, do you then have flywheel to seal face clearance? I generally tapped seal in slight amount to be sure flywheel didn't rub on face of seal. Just saying that's all.

Doug Ward two piece seals used on lots of HD equipment can be done this way. There is a part that rides with housing (crankcase here) and the other part rides with shaft. In dirty environments you replace the seal and it is fixed, there isn’t a worn out crankshaft, cam, etc. from the seal riding directly on the shaft surface, it wore out the seal instead. Also, the part that rides on shaft has a lip and it acts as a slinger and pitches off the dirt and this makes these seals live when seal direct to shaft will not

Yes, an engine stand makes a more convenient working platform, and having the proper tools for a job is the best, but sometimes you get the job done wherever you are, and with what you have available. You're alright, you you know your stuff.

i would sure like you to pull out that tight balance shaft and look at the bearings for a mushroomed end.. take a sharp pocket knife if you don't have a triangular bearing scraper. to put just a little oil clearance between the bearing id and the balance shaft.. so the bearing does not melt and weld to the surface of the balance shaft at start up. spinning in the bore and destroying the block and the shaft. its about 5 to 8 minutes to do this.. if you spin the balance shaft a few times you will see the shiny spot in the bearing you need to carve away slightly.. clearance should be 0.0015" where that spot is 0.000..

We just had a transmission rebuild, all the clutch plates had the glue getting loose so that you could pull the plating right of. Can somebody tell me why this happened? The mechanics fixing it said they had never seen it. It's a New Holland t7050. It was 10.000 dollars for the repair, all new clutches.

Not so much that I have OCD, but the labor of replacing a rear main seal is a pain in the dick and a lot of labor to eat. If I remember correctly you've done a lot of 4.5 and 6.8 powertech engines, that tool should work on the earlier pre powertech and 300 series engines. I bought the tool for front and rear cause although pricy, it works for a lot of engines.

tears ago i built a few diferent engeine stands, thinking i needed to have them, being everyone told me. oh you have to have them, well they been sitting out back for years, rusting, i hate them, they are always in the way, know mater what you do, i even have a factory one, they are all more of a pain in the ass then any good, the only things i use ar the shipping stands i made for transporting them from the fiel to the shop and back

We got alot of that these days throughout our country but probably not the way most look at it, today it's not about competence, if your the best person for the job, man, woman, black white pink purple, what ever, but now we have afermative action, and all this crap, which doesn't matter if your qualified or competent for the job, no it what gender you are or what color you are, uys everywhere, did you know that if your Asian you get points taken away for applying to college, what, lol, why because they study hard and there culture is to be as smart as they can be, couldn't every culture and color and gender have the same reputation, of course they could but sense they dont we tax thise that do well and give to those that suck, and that's some how supposed to produce the best out of a society of people, no, there is always someone that knows someone or has a family member and of we were them people we'd probably do the same thing for our kin, as long as they weren't crack heads or some kind of loser that would make us look bad, theres always that and as long as a person is competent to do the job ok, just got to thinking about your story of the kid that wasn't competent by his grades to get the job over you, but I also look at it another way, if you would've got the job you wouldn't be doing what your doing now, its corny but there sometimes is a silver lining to clouds , one experienced it myself in life.
