hi there, i am an engineer from the UK, over here those new john Deeres struggle to run on our standard red diesel as it is too high in sulfur, they don't like it, so the owners sometimes have to import diesel from ireland which has a lower sulfur level, load of crap to me aha. im still in the apprenticeship stages of my career and have learn a lot from your videos, keep up the good work.

Looking forward to the engine rebuild and new lighting. Good on you letting others do the climbing up to the ceiling.

I am so glad I gave up being a John Deere mechanic when they started computerising stuff. The last series that came out when I was a mechanic was the 60 series. Last tractor I worked on was setting up a new 4960 for it owner. I can't imagine working on the crap they design and build now.

Hey great video. I'm a new subscriber, sent to you from Andy at Farming Fixing and Fabricating. I cannot believe the trouble the new diesels are having across the industrial field. I've been really enjoying your vids, your diagnostic and repair work is excellent and fun to watch. Cheers

There was a time when 2800 hrs was just well broke in. This was the same time when clean fuel and air were important to an engine. Now they feed them their own exhaust and this is the result. Damn. Soon farmers will be swapping in old detroits.

Something I learned about Allen bolts is the importance of the highest quality Allen wrench possible. Cheap and even moderately prices Allen tools are more likely to round the bolts and themselves than really good ones are.
@mr.h47146 жыл бұрын
Do R/C! Absolutely spot on, that and I would add use Allen sockets on a wratchet and extension whenever possible , those little L shaped Allen keys are a nightmare to use and are part of the problem rounding bolts. Believe it or not a nice 12 or 14 volt Milwaukee impact will remove those better than. Most anything if ya have the room. Anytime I have one starting to round out I'll get the impact and lean on it hard and pop the trigger a couple times and it almost always gets er done...

You could install a set of Anderson plugged jump leads. They are the best as they’re hard wired to the battery.
@matwalker63366 жыл бұрын
At least you told them.... it is exactly what you said... no modern diesel will idle like they used to. They have to be up to double idle at least to create the boost/heat needed to make them run right. So much is to do with operator error but who ever took them aside and said ohh by the way we have completely changed the way you need to operate equipment?????

Hey Warren I watched this video again to learn more from you. Now that this motor is all done, in this video you said the dpf is plugged. In video rebuild 2 or 3, you mentioned the valve lash maybe took the motor out. Me just watching and trying to learn, if they have you check the lash once a year, and follow the regens, this motor takin a shit *in theory* shouldn't have happened. On my new '17 2032r jd, it will tell you when you need to do a regent, you can skip it once, then it will supposedly go into limp mode at some point to protect the motor. This 6170r didn't seem to shut down ahead of time, and or the valve lash was so bad it took the motor out.
@connorvelthuis22214 жыл бұрын
FredFlintstone21 Don’t know if you watched the following vids, but at this stage it’s too far gone. The engine may or may not have done its regens but in the end it dropped a valve or two because of the egr.
@jaybee23445 жыл бұрын
Well it should have done many of regen at this point. The DPF needs to be cleaned out regularly too. They can and SHOULD use Power Service fuel treatment to reduce soot build up.

What are you using for wiring diagrams and such on this newer equipment? I have the TEXA but find it coming up short a lot of times on the technical side lately.
@connorvelthuis22216 жыл бұрын
How many hours on that thing? I have a 6150r and it blew the motor at 754 hours. Little pinhole in the block drained all the water. Thank god for warranty but I don’t like 6 months of downtime. Edit: i see the hours now.

Michael Mac Tavish Kabota DOES NOT built a big enough tractor for one thing,the MX-135 is smaller then a 6170R and they have just as many issues with the engines as Case/I.H. and Kabota.
@prevost86866 жыл бұрын
4 gauge Emissions is killing all engines regardless of paint color. We used to get 1-1.2 million between inframes on 12.7 Detroit’s. If you get half that on the 13L Volvo’s that replaces them you’re doing good. I will keep my pre- emissions tractors. They will last me the rest of my life.

It seems kind of ridiculous how such a rare thing such as a tractor "needs" emissions b.s.
@prevost86866 жыл бұрын
EthaN They don’t need it and before the emotionally driven tree huggers try to have a meltdown I can explain. The whole notion is to lower fossil fuel emissions. The problem is that it takes far more fossil fuels to produce these complicated emission systems, more fossil fuels to repair and maintain them, more fossil fuels to replace them because of shorter service life’s and more fossil fuels to recycle them when they’re in boneyards, more fossil fuels burnt because they don’t get the fuel efficiency of pre-emission tractors and finally more costs to the consumer to pay the farmers for the increased costs of doing business.
