A suggestion for cleaning the glass in a wood stove door. Use the ash (fine ash) from the stove, take a damp paper towel, dip it in the ash and then rub the glass. It will clean your glass as good or better than any product you can buy.

When you go to put that 52" light bar above the windscreen, put that sunvisor back on, it'll stop the light coming in to the cab as well as stop the hood getting lit up too much, unless you mount it on the top bar of the flatbed headrail.

I used a propane torch for a while to light my fire as well, but propane is costing more every year. I found out if I light up some kindling on top of all the wood (an old Norwegian trick to light fires) It will burn right down through the middle and slowly sets the whole thing on fire. You already load you stove up full, most people still start a fire with kindling then slowly put piece after piece on. The way we do it, you light it and adjust your air flow as needed by the time you need to add more wood you have a great bed of coals to work with. 👍 It is wonderful thing to see your son grow into a man. When you have a great marriage with a man and a woman that truly love each other it reflects into their children. God bless you and your family. Have Merry Christmas and a happy New Year. 🎄

I have many memories with my Dad and Brother in Law. we built many things together. We started with Campers. First a couple of bumper pulls and then a slide in for a pickup. The last one was a fifth Wheel which I hauled from MN to Yellowstone. We had finished a couple of houses together before we built 2 completely by ourselves and then a couple more where we contracted a lot but did the electrical and finishing. We built a couple of utility trailers as well. I was building a 37 Chev Pickup with dad when he passed suddenly almost 30 years ago. The 37 got stored and sat for over 25 years. I'm now building it by myself.

after hearing about the plans for bedrooms, I would suggest checking into building a good sized brick/concrete mass heater. they use one or two hot burns a day, they are usually used in scaniavian homes and should keep the shop warm hours after the hot fire dies. some designs include areas for baking. by using an outside air source for the fire you would have a better draft, without drawing cold air from under doors, ect. for the fire. equipped with a shutter to keep cold air out after the fire dies. the heater does not use a damper. so the fires burn hot. due to the mass, they provide an even heat and are much safer than your barrel or torpedo heaters. when you seal up the eves the shop should hold in the heat. can't wait to see the truck completed, also to find out the color you have chosen...

The rare times we use our wood stove, we enjoy it. Normally, we don’t like the hassle, and natural gas is cheap enough for us. A couple of years ago when furnace failed in the winter, we were thankful to have our emergency wood in the garage to keep heating for 5 weeks. It started fun, but house was too warm or too cool. I was happy when furnace changed out. We have enough wood and gasoline for generator if things fall. In the interim, thermostat is friend. Like what you all do. It’s not for me, but enjoy watching. 20 yrs ago would have. My mother did, but regretting I think.

I let my ashes sit in the bucket outside for a day or so, to make sure they are cold!!! We got low 40s for a few days, and then days of mid 30s, theres even a hint of frozen stuff coming! We havent had snow for the holidays in many years!

If you've ever turned your bright lights on while driving in a snow storm, and weren't able to see, thats exactly what will happen every time you have that light bar on right above your windshield. Ideally you'd have the light as far forward, no higher than your hood, with the beam not extending above your sight line. I ran two Rigid Industries Spot beam fixtures, mounted onto my plow light mount, and it worked really well at giving me great boost of light without blinding me when snow would blow up from plowing or when it was snowing heavy.

I find that if I dip a damp sheet of kitchen roll into the ashes then a bit of gentle rubbing will quickly remove the gunk from the window of my stove. The ashes act as a mild abrasive which gets it off without scratching the glass.

I have never heard or seen you mention rhubarb. Some people call it pie plant. The leaves are poisonous with oxalic acid. The cut up stems when cooked, make a delicious pie, sometimes with strawberries added. I like the pie made as rhubarb custard with eggs added. Your wood ashes do wonders for the growth of rhubarb. You should check out some recipes. You harvest in late spring, usually in May. You can also make it into a nice sauce, which freezes well. The rhubarb is a bit tart so sugar is needed. Sweeten to taste.

For everyone complaining about what Heath is doing and why he's doing it in the order he's doing it, just shut your pie hole. He's doing it the way he wants and in the order he wants. Truth be known, it all has to be done before the plow truck would even make it down the road and back. And for those complaining about the fact there wasn't a video up on Thursday, get a life. That man has a family to take care of and it's Christmas time. Heath, you're doing a fine job on everything there, even if it's not the way some folks would do them. Keep plugging away... you'll get there.

Best thing u could do with a slippery steep uphill driveway when u burn wood, and have a bunch of ash. Spread it on the driveway. Works better than salt, insta traction, or just save a bucket or 2 of ash for when someone can't make it up, throw it out in front of there tires. It works 99 percent of the time.

Hot air holds a lot of water. Cold air holds little water. In the middle of your wall where hot meets cold, vapour condenses into water. This can rot wood and cause mold. That is why you should put a vapour barrier on the inside of your house. That way the water escapes out a window instead of condensing in a wall. Now this is critical in a living space because of a kitchen and washroom. Not as much with a garage. The exposed rockwool just had me thinking. Cool video. Best wishes to you, regards from Iceland.
