Even after about 4 years now? Every time I need help or I am not sure about something, concerning my Qnap Nas, this is where I come. And it hasn't failed me once.

If you SSH into the QNAP you can run the command dmidecode -t memory look at the top section "Physical Memory Array " and you will see if the QNAP is using the ECC feature. E.G. " Error Correction Type: Single-bit ECC"

I checked QNAP’s website and it lists ECC memory as supported on the specifications page. Not sure if that was mentioned or added later but it seems like this is a great setup

Nice video! Would you be willing to also test the ECC memory with QuTS Hero, so ZFS? I've always read that using ECC with ZFS is an absolute requirement if you want to do it right, so I'm very curious to see if/how it really makes such a big difference.

ECC's true need is debatable...(certainly, less than optimal to have crappy and too high-clocked and/or unstable non-ECC RAM potentially inducing errors...!)

After some very informative personal advice from NASCompares, I bought the 673A last week. Today extra memory arrived. I picked up the same Crucial module but with 32GB, installed it and left the original 8GB in and everything looks good. I have 40GB of RAM now.

What is the exact Crucial RAM module model that you installed?
@@jmal555 This RAM didn't work for me. My Qnap 873a would not boot =(

@@wongjohnvideo I've had mine running without issues for 2 months now with the original 4GB on my 673A

If the board is dual channel, and you are using 1 stick of 32 and one stick of 8, then you are limiting your performance.

Does anyone know what the part number is for the ECC memory that was 1st tested in this video?

Nice video, good info. Would you also have a link to something called "Everything you need to know about Upgrading NAS Memory" but ...for QNAP? The video talks about QNAP but the link points to a page where Synology Memory Upgrades are explained...:-(

Is it possible to run a pair that is different capacity along with the pre-installed modules? Such as 16gb + 32gb in a TVS-h1288X?

I have a QNAP 673a QUTS Hero and Raid 5 ZFS. At the moment there is Crucial 2x16GB SO-Dimm installed. Would you recommend to upgrade to 64GB just to be on teh safe side for future usage? - I assume DDR So-Dimm will phase out slowly too.

I have TS-664, which is a newer QNAP model. I initially updated with 2 stick of KRV26S19S6/8 (8GB DDR4 2666 from Kingston). They work perfectly for 6 months but now under heavy ram usage QNAP started to crash (turn off) and would not pass Power-On Self-Test. If I remove 1 stick and run memtest86, it would not detect any error. Should I buy 1 unit of 16GB to upgrade instead?

Can I upgrade the ram in my TS-880U? If so, can I upgrade to 32GB/64GB? Does it matter what brand?

Does this much extra RAM really improve performance in a NAS? Particularly if your Plex server is exclusively direct play?
@winfr34k3 жыл бұрын
Technically, more memory means more place for the (Linux) kernel to queue operations into and to serve as a direct memory cache. Also, ZFS needs quite a bit of RAM for all of its durability features to still perform OK (1GB per TB of disk is recommended, ECC an absolute must for ZFS) if you want to use that. However, these substantial amounts of memory (32 - 64GB) are most useful for people who plan to run VMs or containerized workloads on their NAS, making it more of a homeserver. I've been looking for a NAS/homeserver replacement myself for quite some time and these new generations of NAS with a (comparatively and relatively in the homeserver/NAS space) potent CPU AND the ability to install quite a bit of RAM (and a few other bits and bobs) might mean that I can finally get a compact yet powerful NAS to replace all my homeservery needs. Not trying to sell their product for them (I'm certainly not paid) but just giving you my perspective as a potential NAS buyer the next quarter.

Does it work to use the 32GB Kingston (KCP426SD8/32) in addition to the 8GB Kingston cbd26d4s9s1me included in the TS-473A?
