My place looks similar, but it's more or less cut in half by the house with just 30 yds of woods between the building site and the back of the property, we're pretty much a horseshoe shaped woods island with a couple of line fences connecting it to other places and a 10 acre field in the middle. It's goofy, but very private.

Sure thing! The parcels will never be featured unless North is up. Also, the predominant wind direction (35%) is always sse to ssw in the majority of the North 2/3rds of the country. Also the predominant wind plays no roll in a parcel design...all winds need to be accounted for. Hope that helps! You want to have a fairly equal number of stands for all winds, if possible.

Awesome idea to talk about past clients properties. I have a 63 acre parcel that parallels this property in a lit of ways. This year I was planning on putting in a food plot in one corner of the property in addition to the other plot at the opposite end of the property. This has changed my thinking completely. Most of your videos/plans seem to be based on the fact that the deer will be traveling quite a ways after dark to get to an Ag field. What do you do when there aren't any Ag fields within 10 miles of your land? In no Ag locations what are they eating for the 4th and 5th feedings?

Hi Mike, that depends on so many factors that I wish we had time to discuss on here! Amount of sunlight, deer density, neighboring food sources, soil, equipment, time, money...quite a few things to explore.

Unfortunately because I do this for a living, 70-80 hours pet week, 7 days per week...you may have noticed I didn't answer questions all afternoon yesterday while I spent time with my wife for a valentines day extended weekend. I focus on questions too, where it is obvious the person asking the question has searched for the same answer in other comments or within the video itself, first. I tend to ignore questions that have been already asked so that I can focus on new questions that help the most folks within the time I have dedicated to actually answer questions. Last KZbin tells me I answered 27,000 comments eothin the 208 videos published in 2020 and I focus on the commemts that help the most folks and are the most concise. This of course after visiting roughly 100 clients in person, finishing a web class, another book...and working on my own land and hunting. I would say very easily, there is no other channel that even comes close to answering as many technical questions...

I don't see the depth of cover, that you speak of, in that layout? Are those spacial areas large enough from food to property edge to allow adequate doe and buck bedding?

Like I said in the video, due to the linear food plots, doe bedding takes place in a linear fashion against the food...leaving significant depth of cover to the west and west center of the land. That also allows for the food to adequately support the entire parcel.

Hi MD! Hunter access trails should be wide and straight, and I never rake them...just clear sticks. Main access trails should be as wide as a truck if possible. The great thing about hunter access trails is that they do not connect habitat features of mock scrapes, waterholes, food plots, staging areas and bedding areas. The more you define deer movement, create great deer travel corridors and build true people trails...there will be a much clearer separation of attraction for deer. I hope that helps!

Thank you for these highly educational videos. They are very helpfull even over here in Europe. Roe deer are very close to whitetai deer habitat- and behaviourvise. I manage them on a comparatively small hunting lease of under 500 acres, so these small parcel hunting tips are great.

You said deer trail. How do you get deer to not use your access routes?

Great question! Impossible to stop all deer traffic, BUT there is big difference between deer trails and hunter trails. Hunyer trails should be long, straight and as wide as possoble...up to pickup truck width. They don't connect to deer bedding, food sources, mock scrapes, waterholes or cruising cover. So by position and size...completely different. The more defined deer travel is created and enhanced, the less deer will have reason to use hunter access trails...especially when the hunter access trails are wider, straighter and unconnected to deer features. Man... I really wish I could get my father in law on board with some of your ideas... My in-laws bought 65 acres in WV this past spring... He was so excited because we got Hundreds of Buck pictures over the summer, but then they all disappeared in October.... Needless to say hunting was abysmal this past fall. He got one doe with a rifle and hit and lost one buck with his bow that happened to chase a doe past him. I got a spike with a rifle because I needed the meat. We saw 6 bucks including those 2 all season down there when we literally got dozens on camera. I'm thinking that it's a combination of 2 things, 1, it's just a summer property that needs alot of work. 2, they insist on using four-wheelers to drive to their stands and his brother is super loud in the woods so the deer just moved elsewhere. Unfortunately it's his land so I can't do anything that's not his way but that's how it goes I guess.

BTW, I am not sponsored by Victory and they are like a lot of products I use...find the best first and if they want to form a partnership great and if not I will use them anyways. I struggle getting off my cabin deck without spooking deer in the morning so I’ve found its best to not hunt the morning which pains me but you can’t educate mature bucks! Trying John K screening mix can’t remember what it’s called and built a berm to hide the cabin and I have found I have to wait until grey light or later to get to my morning stands. Appreciate your help that you offer all of us more than you know!
