As a rookie hunter, these videos have taught me why I’m not seeing deer on my buddy’s dads property. I can’t wait to take all this and apply it once I get my own property and out of college.

This is awesome. My property is smaller, but also in a flat river valley area of northern Michigan. I'm determined to get the release process up and running. Even if I'm in the mecca of jack pine sandy soil country lol

Deer will use a good turkey and quail area too. At least down here in GA they will.

Reach out to your local NRCS office. They have some excellent biologists from state agency & quail forever that can write you a plan for free and integrate cost share programs to help you fund the improvements they recommend. Private consultants want you to believe they are more experienced than your state agency because they can't compete with free lol.

How does one have Dr. Grant Woods come to your property for an assessment? Have followed for years, see things like this all the time, and see nothing on the website as to how to even get on a list. Anyone?

We don't advertise but do assist several landowners annually. There is a fee for our services based on the location, acreage, etc. If you'd like us to consider creating a habitat and hunting improvement plan for your property, send the acreage and location to info@GrowingDeer.com. Thanks!

What methods are necessary to develop the north bedding area (which seems to be open currently) into thick bedding habitat?
@GrowingDeerTV
@GrowingDeerTV Жыл бұрын
What technique to use depends on the current vegetation. Deer make living 0 to 4' above the ground. If you are working in an area with a closed canopy forest, some trees needed to be terminated to allow enough sun to reach the soil to to stimulate plant growth. If in a pasture, often the pasture grasses need to be terminated and burned and a cover planted or allow the native vegetation grow. These are just a few examples.

@@GrowingDeerTV I live in Texas and the native grasses and forbs are generally too short for full cover in my limited experience. Does green cover have a blend for planting cover in open areas?

I harvested my first buck last year. Hunted for 5 years b 4 I was successful. What helped me most was cutting a mountian bike trail to my stands. I think it helped me not leave a ton of scent around my small property (44 acres) and aloud me to quietly enter and exit without alerting every deer in the woods. Also only hunting when the wind was perfect for the location. Like Grant says it critical to approach, hunt and exit with them never knowing you where in the woods. I believe it's especially true for us who have smaller hunting properties. Hope this helps!

I guess I missed what you actually did to make these different areas other than draw them out on a map. You have wasted my time and tested my patience. Totally useless video without explanation of what was actually done to the property to make the bedding areas, feeding areas, and travel corridors.
