This is a re-upload of a previous video (now removed), where the overwhelming feedback was "sort out the audio". I've also cut it waaaay back, and uploaded the full version on The Video Shop Long Play (link in description). Thanks to everyone who commented previously, and pointed out what should have been glaringly obvious to me from the outset!

That triggered me because this is all my clients

45 was a very specific dig at a client I used to have to deal with before I went freelance. And I know many others who worked with him will ABSOLUTELY get the reference

Can you make a video on scope of work? I.e. what should be included, what it should look like, how to discuss it and not get talked out of including important stuff, etc

Plus one to this! Would love to get some advice on how to do this

It's not something I feel qualified to talk about as I don't have much / any experience with it. Then again that's never stopped me before LOLLLLLLLLLLL So maybe. I'd rope in someone to advise me probably / maybe.

Ha! That was incredibly entertaining, and scary at the same time. Nice! Question on the project files... how do you generally handle that? Do you have a go to rule, such as: it'll cost them this percentage more, or anything of the sort?
@hipsternihilist392811 күн бұрын
Depends on the situation, but generally I ask them what files they'd like specifically, then once they answer, you can always say that you use a lot of custom/licensed plugins and music so the session files won't be useable without my licenses. If they persist and you want to continue working with them (do you though?) then send a timeline with just their footage as a string out from the first session file you made. Cheers!

the clock watchers red flag is important to junior motion designers,lots of "can I get a test render"/"can you input this change before you leave"clients being anti clock watch is a sign of future project bloat.On the topic of junior animator ,would be interested in a similar list for junior motion designers looking for their first full time gig.

Any expectation that people will work beyond standard hours I would be very wary of. Especially if it's frequent. On the other hand, if there's a genuine, unavoidable bind the client or agency is in I would want to help. I've done late nights and all nighters before when it's been really necessary. It can be the nature of our work sometimes. I'd have to think about a separate junior list, as there would be a lot of crossover so I'd probably be repeating myself. Be repeating myself. (sorry)

Hard agree on too many cooks. Especially when most of them aren't the main decision-makers.

Oh god yes. Trivia you didn't ask for but I'll give you anyway Grant: I was split over whether to revise the wording of that one as it's colloquialism I wasn't sure travelled well beyond the UK. But I loved the clip too much to change it. So there you go.

Ha! I've only used upwork for payment because a couple of clients insisted I had to create a profile on there to get paid. Never to find work, and based on your succinct non-endorsement not any time soon.
@YaYousef5Ай бұрын
@@TheVideoShopLondon strange... Why would they want to use a platform that fees them to send you a payment? And why would you agree to a 10% discount on every payment to get? There's hundreds of online payment platforms that won't fee them and charge less fees or none (except cc fees thanks to credit card rewards/points bs) for sending an invoice.

@@TheVideoShopLondon it was an OK platform 2 years ago. That's how I was able to connect with a UK client (my first foray into overseas work). But it has since gone downhill, now inhabited by slavers looking for "rockstars." Lucky are those who were able to experience Upwork's full glory prior to the pandemic.
