your glazing videos surpass anyone else. the details etc and the way you edit video to show results,... and numbering the video so I can find it again. A wee list of the colours used would be the icing on the cake. I was confused when you mentioned "rooftile? rootill? etc until your text came up saying rutile 😁" thank you so much for your help from a new potter !!

On the positive side I have learned so much from your videos an appreciate you art and your work. Being an American the speed at which you talk sometimes baffles me as I have a hearing disability and often can’t understand you due to your strong British accent. But that I am afraid is my problem and the longer I view your videos the more I am growing accustomed to your speech pattern. In the beginning you might have been speaking in Chinese as I had no understanding of your language. At the end of your video you finally identified rainforest as the underlining glaze of the pieces with the scalloped Smoky Merlo trim. Thank you so much!

Fantastic demo LOUISE. I MIGHT HAVE MISSED IT, BUT HOW MANY COATS OF THE TT AND AC ON YOUR LAMP PIECES please? Also is it 2 sm over obs? Thank you. Glynne
@LoisHook3 жыл бұрын
Three layers on each. With the over lap of about an inch no more. I’ve just double checked I did TT over the Ancient Copper. Yes one thick SM over obsidian will give maroon. Then a thick second SM coat round the rim with the obsidian over to make the blue/Maroon.

Great video as usual. Curious? What clay body are you using? I've been running into pinholes using Amaco glazes and I've never had this issue before. Please help. Lol

All these would be made with Scarva ES10 white stoneware.
@libbysmithstudio3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I've been scared of oatmeal after seeing some nightmare stories. My clay body did not like above Cone 5. Before I buy some of these glazes, do any need a higher firing than Cone 5 to get these beautiful results? Truly stunning!
@LoisHook3 жыл бұрын
So all these are fired on a cone 6 either medium or in the case if these ones a slow fire because of the big lamps. This is a preset Kiln and I find my witness cones are at cone 7. Not sure what results you will het at cone 5 though most glazes are happy at that but if you investigate on the Amaco site you will find some major differences with Temps. A thought. May be look at a stoneware smooth white clay no grog like mine and then cone 6 is fine.
@libbysmithstudio3 жыл бұрын
My clay is a stoneware bmix, no grog... but I hear it can get less reliable at Cone 6. My kiln fires to a hot Cone 5, so I'm hoping to get similar results. Those colors have me salivating to try!!!! Thank you for the response! ❤❤🤗

Why oatmeal flux instead of honey flux? What does it add or how is it different?
@LoisHook7 ай бұрын
I have both. Only just started to play with honey flux. Oatmeal thicker. Causes outstanding reactions. I think honey flux mixes with the glazes more and runs more. Merges more. Oatmeal seams to not run so much and cause colour changes it a short run. The only way to see what you feel is to buy and play with both. Do some text tiles.
@mikeeee70642 жыл бұрын
Does the oatmeal have color to it or does it just help glazes run more?
@LoisHook2 жыл бұрын
In this instance when over curtain glazes it mixes Runs and causes a flux. I did it on its own and it’s an oatmeal colour. No run. Then put snow over and it had a white motels effect. There is a video though not sure of the number but right back at the beginning with test tiles and oatmeal is in that.
@SallyRoperPottery3 жыл бұрын
Quick question. What temp do you fire these to?
@LoisHook3 жыл бұрын
I have a prescheduled Skutt and do a cone 6 fire. This was a slow fire because of the size of the lamps. But usually medium. No hold. It usually comes closer to a cone 7.

I really like that you show the raw glaze followed by the fired result BUT you are confusing me by not being specific enough about all the glazes on the raw piece (and sometimes the wrong name). Glazes do not look at all similar to their final color in raw form, so I am having trouble accurately following what you have on the piece.
