Thanks for this Justin! Does anyone else remember in the late 2000s, early 2010s when NAMM was this really big thing and it always felt like a second Christmas seeing all the new stuff being released? And eagerly waiting for the drum manufacturers to update their websites on the first day of NAMM to see the new finishes for the year. I always enjoyed it, but it seems like Tama is the only one updating their website now, and usually at the beginning of the year and not during NAMM anymore.

NAMM was massive in 2019 and 2020 as well. Then a ton of companies vanished when it came back after covid. I think it'll build back up, but it'll probably take 5 years. Companies in general announce stuff on their own time now.

Thanks for posting this! You must get recognised constantly in drum world! Notable moments: 5:42 Hampback - hadn't heard of them. Maybe some review content? 6:14 Subdrum - I could see mounting a small subwoofer speaker in an e-kit kick pad is a great idea. 7:04 Some drum legend I'd be crucified for not knowing who it is? 7:44 Does that kit foldaway completely into that box? 8:04 RGB pads - had to happen I guess.

Justin, thank you!! It may not seem like it to you, but this was one of the most interesting videos you have done. I have never been able to fully visualize the NAMM layout & experience, but now I have good grasp of the scene. I also now understand why different instrument groups are placed separately. That drum hall must be loud when people are playing. The scale of the DJ & Tech & Pro Audio spaces give a person a good idea of how the music industry has evolved over 30 years. Too bad Roland & DW did not participate. Hopefully they will have big news in 2024. Thanks again!

Great walk through video!! I went to Namm with my teacher Dom Famularo a few years back. We got treated very well but the noise level was insane!! Dom was fine the whole time but I had to take noise breaks, it was too much, lol. It’s super cool at Namm and being with Dom I got to meet everybody and ended up setting up a few lessons with some great teachers while I was there!!

Yeah the noise level is out of control in the drum section. Usually there's the "sound police" but this time they just let everyone rip.

Thanks man! You’re right it was probably a shutter setting that could have synced the blades up. Glad you enjoyed the video! It was mostly shot with an iPhone 13Pro on a DJI Gimbal. Just a ton of editing to get it cut down from 2 hours into something worth watching

I used to work in the industry and got free tickets every year. You pretty much nailed it, and it hasn't change much since 20 years ago when I was there last. I really wish it was more artist than sales oriented. It would be cool to have band showcases or something like that in the side rooms.
@65Drums Жыл бұрын
I see what you're saying James, and thankfully there were a bunch of free concerts through the day and at night. There's a special outdoor stage for that. But I'll take devils advocate here and say that I'm glad NAMM is gear oriented. For me, NAMM is about keeping on top of music gear releases, and developing industry relationships. If NAMM just turns into a thousand little concerts, then it might as well be a standard music festival. I go with a media badge to review products and keep up on the industry. Instrument sales is what pays for everything at the end of the day. That's just my take though
@jameshisself9324 Жыл бұрын
@@65Drums No I think your take is spot on and the reason the show even exists. To me it feels a bit less gear oriented than sales oriented, but it was always a place to get my fingers on necks and get a feel for whatever was new. I was advocating for both! lol Thanks for the response.

I expect the namm either to completely change to smaller office spaces for just doing bussiness (like the MusikMesse has on the top floors) or end completely. A lot of brands have other ways for shops to test their new gear, and in modern times internet and streaming save costs in a overflown market big time for all parties.
@65Drums Жыл бұрын
There's a whole section of those office spaces. But I think there's hope yet. I wouldn't be surprised if 5 years from now, the numbers get built back up to pre-pandemic levels. But you can tell it's going to be a slow process to get there.
