No tree left behind! Now that I am starting to harvest firewood on our new property I can't stand to see a dead or downed tree left in the woods. Oh and your channel keeps fueling my addiction for firewood, Lumber, saws, tractors ect...

It's an Oak. It deserves much better than burning as firewood. Mill it and build from it, give it a new lease of life. Just my thoughts for such a mighty tree which has stood the test of time.

Can’t believe you guys have no snow. Here in central Maine, we have not had bare ground since before Thanksgiving. We have had over two feet of snow but had some rain and warm weather that settled it some. Snowmobile trails are rock hard now and ice fishing is happening. Anyway, say howdy to family and have a good one. Later..

Not sure why but this video really showed the lay of the land better then any of them... It really showed how steep the hills are. Many times you've shown hills and said how steep they are but they didnt look it at all.... I really get nervous on hills with a tractor... they roll so fast it's usually over before you can react ..... That log was heavy ! Bet you were ready to drop it fast if needed... lol...

ATN X-sight 4k Pro 5-20x - Comes with IR illuminator that you can see shining off their eyes through the scope but the coyotes can't see it. Can ID your target fairly easily out to 300yds in pitch black. Night Vision built in. Can record through the scope and what you see through the scope can be viewed with a smart phone through the ATN App. Can be paired with the ATN Rangefinder that directly connects to the scope and will adjust your reticle automatically based on range of target.

Get a used Maxa Beam xeon tube light and a red filter. The Maxa Beam will throw a beam more than 400 yards with the filter. Since coyotes are varmints, year round open season, no bag limit. Harvest a few gray squirrels in a live trap and wait for the show to begin.

Stopped video to answer bottle question... In the mid 70's to early 80's Mike for those fat boy bottles with the metal top; they had they paper thin Styrofoam like label wrapping around the bottle that would cut/break and peel off real easy, most often by using your finger nails top tear them off... I had enough cuts on my fingers as a kid opening those metal tops to remember them well. Most glass bottles will have date on the bottom of the bottle... back to video.😊

Hey Mike. FYI. I wish they would change it but thermal and night vision are not legal for hunting in PA. However gun mounted lights are. We’ve got a lot of coyotes where I am in southern Beaver county. I’m thinking they have something to do with the lower deer numbers around here. Good luck! Let us know if you have any success.

Yes I remember you pulling out those 2 pieces . You had borrowed a 3 point trailer mover . A viewers wife saw you use it and she told her husband that he should make one for you . He and his son delivered it ( painted a nice red ) to you from out of State . It's built like a brick you know what . LOL Living in the US you should have no problem in getting a night vision scope . Put it on some type of bush gun like a 30.30 or a 45-70 . This way you can blast through the shrubs . Coyotes are like wolves . They will try and attract the dogs in , then go for the kill . You can even set up a coyote trap and dispatch it when you get one .

Does the loader on the tractor have a SWL rating marked anywhere ? There should be a pressure relief valve set at the SWL to avoid damage , I am surprised the hydraulics allowed you to lift a log that heavy .

If that log is 30” X 10’ and it’s a red oak, it weighs about 3,000 lb. That has to be close to or above your loader limit on the RK55. Unless you can find someone to let you demo a 10,000 lb multi terrain loader with a grapple, I’d cut it up in 16” sections and huck it back that way. Especially if you’re planning to make firewood out of it. Trying to skid it downhill on frozen, snow covered ground with a chain may spell doom for your log winch. Plenty of danger with big logs, undersized equipment and hilly terrain! Been there....😊

Winching tip: hook that log up with the hook cinched around the far side near the ground, when you start the pull it will roll the log, start it moving and make it easier to keep moving. You can pull around stumps that way also.

Hey Mike, since that log has a split in the middle it might be a fun opportunity to try quarter sawing. Takes more handling but it's a neat thing to do if you've never done it before and makes your boards more valuable.

Nice logs Mike. The coyotes here in S/E WI are getting pretty aggressive the last six months or so. The the Neighbor had some sheep last summer and the coyotes were hanging around in the day light. Since we have days and he had sheep we started cutting the yard with hand guns. Bad enough they keep us up all nite but I really don't like them hanging around while I'm out cutting grass. ATN has a few options in scopes that you can use but they are very pricey. But if you have an issue their night vision scopes are great. I have a ATN X-Sight which is not a scope as much as it is a camera that mounts and is used as a scope but it was more expensive than my AR from a self build AR. A story I would like to relate concerning true 2 by 4s. Back in the late 70s, we moved to upstate NY. We purchased an old farmhouse. It was the main house for a large farm on the border of PA and NY, The title stated it was 99+ years old then. The house was built by the farmer. It had real red oak 2 by 4s. They weren't on 16" centers either. The beams that held up the house were huge and hand-cut. The floors were red oak as well. The ceiling was at least 10 feet. The basement floor was originally dirt and the house built on a stone foundation. The raised the house 4 course of block to allow headroom in the basement and they poured a concrete floor. The house was old enough to have had chestnut trim throughout.

It's my understanding that boards pay better than firewood so saw it in half through the crack and see what comes out of it, if nothing else, easier splitting firewood but even a few boards as wide as those forsee to be, could pay for the fuel that day.Is all that timber yours or are you logging someone else's land? I seen big trees in the background, are they good for lumber or do you figure it's too had to get to?

Mike we have a pack of four coyotes in our back yard. I have an electronic caller but lack the ambition to go after them. Last year we shot two right by the house and another in the back field while deer hunting. I don’t think you ever get rid of them. Good decision on the oak log.
