It has been 75 years since the first Soviet soldiers received the original Avtomat Kalashnikova, also known as the AK-47. However, in the 21st century, the 5th generation Kalashnikova rifles are one of the most lethal weapons in Russia’s sophisticated arsenal. AK-12s are believed to be more advanced than other Soviet-made rifles in Ukrainian military’s possession. Here's why the Russian AK-12s seem to have become a highly prized battlefield trophy for Ukrainian fighters.
#AvtomatKalashnikova. #AK47. #AK12. #RussiaUkraineWar

An M-249 basic load is 600 rounds..........that is very heavy! Though it can fire all of the 600 rounds continuously, I do not see it as a good way of using all that ammunition. Firefights are about fire and maneuver, not unless you are by yourself. There is a reason the US Army no longer train soldiers to fire in continuous bursts, the soldier runs out if ammo fast. From the OPFOR experience, a single well aimed shot is still the way to go!

From the Ukrainian soldiers I've talked to its not very good. The hand grip shifts, messing up your sights, durability is fine but it gets clogged, faulty gas tubes, the selector for auto can blow over and completely cover the trigger, the hot end of the barrel isn't fully covered, etc. Starsky himself told me it was crap and no one wants to use them in Ukraine, and I only asked him after my other research showed all the problems.

That old g36 test was pretty fascinating especially considering they used 100 round mags which definitely got it hotter than using 30 rounders. And it wasn't even broken after the 900, they just stopped the test cuz it was on fire. But it was still chugging along. Heck even a standard m4 will push +/-700 rounds on average so the ak12 isn't *that* impressive in this regard. There's a private you tuber who about a month ago pushed a Radian ar15 over 1k + which was pretty crazy considering the gas system.. I see Ak's normally go down the minute there's some barrel warp, as the long stroke piston then goes out of alignment and fails to go into battery (usually at around +/-600ish rounds depending on if it's 762x39 or 5.45)

The Russian AK 47 became a legend. It was not accurate but it was simple and effective and could be dropped in the dirt and puddles and still work fine. Technically better western rifles broke down a lot. In battle you need reliable. If the AK 12 is reliable it will do fine. The Russians generally go for simple robust killing weapons. Not fancy.

The nonstop fire torture test is applied by most militaries to test new firearms. They will set a certain level of firing that they will deem necessary. The test is unrealistic. You have a table with full magazines and a guy in heat proof gear and a protection from burst barrels. The guy loads and fires each mag in one burst, so 95 round drums, 60 round mags and 30 round mags will be 95 round, 60 round and 30 round bursts respectively but the empty mag is dropped and a new mag is loaded immediately. Ironically this is clearly a test the German military never performed on their G36s. Soldiers had to find out the hard way.

Brandon Herrera did a review. He’s the AK guy on KZbin and he said it isn’t bad but it isn’t good either. The front barrel guard is floating and has plastic picatinny rails, the gas tube is permanently fixed to the barrel, the safety/selector barely has an end stop and the hyper burst function is very prone to failure. The an94 (the rifle the AK12 was based on) was a much better rifle but costs, corruption and the takeover by kalasjnikov made it a huge fail.

Russian propaganda would like you to believe the AK-12 is the best thing since sliced cabbages. Field reports out of Ukraine have shown the AK-12 has some serious flaws, one of the worst is the selector lever will override the lower part of the receiver when pushed down too hard, resulting in a stoppage of the rifle. The chrome bore and muzzle will corrode rapidly if old corrosive ammunition is used. The gas tube cannot be removed for cleaning, and the front handguards can move making them useless for optics or other sighting devices. Also, if the Russian design is so great, why are they emulating the superior accessory designs of the AMERICAN M-4? CRUX has been posting a lot of Pro-Russian propaganda.

The AK variants are superior in terms of firepower largely because of its 7.62 caliber. But for many, it's like overkill That's why most of NATO prefer the 5.56 because it's enough to do the job. It's also lighter, making it easier to transport and carry around. Also. I don't believe that the AK-12 can fire 600 rounds without breaking. If you go burst mode with a drum magazine, the barrel is liable to break or melt off because of the extreme heat. In my opinion, stick with the tried and tested AK-47. We've all seen what Russian advance weapons can do lately. They're liable to shoot the wielder rather than the target. The boomerang missile being a fine example.
