@doodr Why would a thief waste their time on cutting through it? Anyone's motorcycle secured with this isn't likely to be locked up in an out of sight place where someone that has the right saw can plan out a theft. I could see a mid-range bicycle where the owner shells out for a nicer lock, but again...it's not likely to be worth the thief's time if they have the funds to afford the right cutting equipment in the first place and have the skill/experience to not get caught while trying it. Sure, it can happen. But nearly anything can be broken/stolen. It's just a matter of how hard you make it and how unappealing you make it to a thief. I just can't see someone having the skillset to deal with this actually risking it or wasting their time. They'd be better off looting a couple cars in the area.

@idahomike5 жыл бұрын
@@huckthatdish I used to have a motorcycle that I stored outdoors. When home, it was chained to a pole. When away, I relied on an alarm system. It works well enough. When you're out and about you aren't usually in one location for too long, and they are usually more public areas. A screaming alarm works wonders as a deterrent in a populated area. The alarm also had a proximity sensor, so when parked at home you couldn't even touch the chain without the alarm going off. Best to stack defenses and not just rely on one thing.

Any lock that gives YOU such difficulty is a good one! Bet when you uploaded it the Kryptonite guys were going "Gary! Come watch this!" And - layman's suggestion - perhaps they could make it so one or two discs has tension so if its turned without constant pressure it'll push back? The disturbing pattern I still find is that all you need to do to get there is stick something in to rotate them then start turning tumblers. Find a way to disrupt that so you have to push everything or most at the same time you'll have a pick resistant lock that'll either require a 'mission impossible' style micro shape key tool or a copy of the physical key. Combine that with electronics that locks out the lock if there's no chip with a changeable code in the key - and can't be opened easily from the outside we'll have locks that as designed can only be broken into by huge physical force.

I have this lock with the short chain. It literally weighs as much as my first bike frame did. (it was an ultralight frame) Nowadays I rock a heavy cruiser, but since it would cost me 3X the $ to replace vs. that first touring frame... $120 for a lock (on sale) seemed reasonable. Thing is, I almost never lock my bike up out of my sight in public anyway. And I use it to lock my bike to a steel storage rack inside my locked garage when it's at home. Most bike thieves are not sophisticated, with crews using cordless angle grinders or very large bolt cutters and a stolen pickup to make a run. If one bike has a lock that will take two minutes to cut through with the angle grinder and the other lock two seconds... they will ignore the bike right next to it with the good lock. We hope. ;)

BTW businesses and organizations and cities: bike racks need to be bolted down! There were cases in Boulder Colorado a few decades back where entire bike racks with bikes attached were lifted onto a flatbed and taken down to Denver never to be seen again. Owners: don't use your $200 unpickable, uncuttable lock on an object which can be cut much more easily than the lock. Pay attention to your surroundings. Would it be better to lock it up a block away and hoof it to your destination where the bike would be safer?

This lock is very difficult to find for some reason. You'd think Kryptonite would mass produce and make bank with it because of this video. Ongaurd makes one very similar is it as good?

Some buttheads tried to steal my DR650 and I had this lock on. They tried cutting the chain but only did minor damaged. I guess in anger they messed up my handle bars(trying to break the handle bar lock), broke my both rear turn signals, kicked the crap out of my shifter. Taking my bike to the shop tomorrow.

I've seen a lot of videos with you fixing your tools exactly for the type of lock you like to pick can you do something near that for these kind of locks? Thanks the videos and I haven't try to pick yet but as I have told I have saw a lot of people picking and you are one of three in the top excellent skills...!!!

No core ever defeats lock Bob Ross. That's the good thing about Bosnian Bill, he'll show a lock he tries to pick and fails. Then show us why it got him.

This lock: DISC DETAINER CORE, WITH LITTLE TO NO PICKS/EXPERIENCE EXISTING That same core having 10 FREAKING DISCS a 🅱️eefy af chain, which are already hard to cut And it is considered to be the best lock made (by a company that makes already incredibly good locks) by the greatest lock picker on planet earth. And it can double as a disc brake lock Kryptonite has basically made the perfect lock

I own this lock and chain. Nobody has ever messed with it.

Leaving it exposes it to being attacked while it would seem least conspicuous for someone to be doing so, as well as late in the night when nobody is around, they just have to do it in a way that you could not notice with simple inspection and do the rest once you lock the bike.

What I need is a Kryptonite chain for a regular mountain bike maybe 8 foot long so I can wrap it around my frame and a nice big size Square post when I go to Hibachi Grill if they're still open but I'm very picky about locks and changing you locks but I need a really good long regular bike chain

Great video , would you consider this a harder pick then an abus plus that you have also picked?
@SebastianDiPalmaVampyre5 жыл бұрын
To be honest I get a lot of bike lockouts at work usually abandoned on the racks. I have a hydraulic bolt cutters good for 1/2" rebar if I had to the chain is what I'd go for. I snap most Kryptonite locks like a pencil. I know it is cheating but no one wants to attempt picking in the snow & rain. I keep the cut locks to practice picking in shop.

16 lbs is more than a good lightweight bike weighs. A guy at work used to keep his lock and chain around a pole in the lot, and lock up his motorcycle at work. So I wonder if he had another lock set at his home, one at grandma's, another at his girlfriend's, maybe two or three other friends he visits... he could tie up hundreds of dollars in locks pretty quick.

Locks should combine an alarm system because that cuts off the thief’s time ...and time is their biggest asset

Hi Seems to me there would be very few locks that could withstand a grinder attack. Will you examine & comment on using a battery-powered grinder w cut-off disc for cutting-off various D-shaped bike locks & padlocks. Your depth of knowledge & presentations are excellent. I like the fact that the shackle can be removed once the lock is opened, so it can protect more than just bikes

It's not too heavy to carry around. I used to be a bike messenger in NYC and I had a lock/chain set just like that one which I carried around with me everyday wrapped around my waist like a belt.

Add that to your everyday fifteen pound bike, and you get the good old 30-pound clunker circa 1968. But I also loved seeing the Ferrari parked a quarter mile out from the mall entrance in Las Vegas, far away from potential door dings.

15 lbs bikes?! You have a lot of money. Even very expensive bikes carbon fiber hardtails are usually just over 21 lbs from what I have seen

Great lock, very difficult to break into, I got all that. The big question is can a bolt cutter cut through that specific chain. Someone please help with the answer

NMCCW - if you believe KZbin, couple of people already have...except they hide their special ‘tool’ from view for undisclosed reasons, which I suspect is otherwise referred to as ‘the key’ 🤦🏻♂️ I challenged one of these guys on it and he came back with some lame patent excuse.

The 1515 lock on Amazon does not look like this in 2024 May. I have been unable to find this lock on internet for sale with the chain, though Amazon still sells a different looking 1515. As I recall the new lock took a guy about 90 seconds to cut through the shank (only one cut, use crow bar to twist shank after 1 cut.

This has 10 disks, is a chain lock so it can secure a wheel as well, and is capable of securing up to a motorbike. I do declare that this has surpassed the oxford BEAST as my fav bike/ motorbike lock

Why can’t I find this chain but the 15 pound version WITH** the padlock? Is it discontinued or something?

Are the fabric wraps on these chains anything special, or just for noise and scratch resistance? I was thinking if they were made of the same material as chainsaw chaps, that bind up the saw when cut, that would be a great deterrent for grinder attacks too.
