(69) Picking and gutting the ABUS 83/55 Rock padlock

Tools used are a Sparrows Euro Hook and a TOTK tension wrench.

Hehe, that's a great way spending time. They aren't wery hard to pick though. A Lockwood 334 has greater potential but harder to get!

True. Very true. You should check out the wafer driver pins I've been working on and pinning my locks with (video on my channel). :) I uploaded a video earlier today picking a six pin 83 Schlage core with a decent key bitting. I just used the stock ABUS spool and serrated pins. I have it completely loaded with my wafer-driver pins and I still can't pick it. Key works nice and smooth. I'm used to this key, but I haven't been able to figure out how to defeat it with my new pins.

Thank you. I keep thinking I'm insane for taking on this project, but insanity never stopped me before. I still haven't been able to pick my lock open with the pins I made. LOL. This is a good thing though because I'm trying my best to make the pins fail. If they stand up to the repeated abuse, then I have more confidence of their longevity.

I got my ROCK yesterday in the mail. It came with two sets of pre-cut keys (contractor/owner). The key bitting was extremely disappointing and I picked my ROCK open in about 20 seconds. I rekeyed it, but one of the pins became bound up inside. As I was dismantling the core, the stupid core retaining pin got stuck inside the 2nd pin chamber in the bible. I was so mad at myself for making such a rookie mistake. I will be drilling out that retaining pin tonight and making a new one. At least I don't have to drill another hole into the bible.

I've got the 6 pin version of that lock, all standard pins, an absolute bastard of a thing, after weeks of on and off trying I haven't managed to pick it yet, but you may have just inspired me to try again . We hate to be beaten don't we...LOL. Great picking on that, fantastic stuff ;-)

LDU2U I upgraded this one to a 6-pin core, still using the same key. The ABUS config is too predictable but if you change the pin configuration diverging from all spools in chambers 2-6, you are really up for a challenge ;)
