In my experience, most rotary tools have a problem: single bearing on the shaft. They work for a few hours, then bearing play develops and they get loudy and lots of run-out, destroying any accuracy beyond rust-removal and the vibration is very hard to me, as my hand nerves have damage from tool vibration and they get very numb. I hardly use angle grinders and oscillation tools anymore, just when absolutely necessary. As far as I know, the IBS/E is the only 1/8" rotary tool to have two bearings in tandem mounted on a metal housing, theoretically solving the problem. I don't know of other brand or model, there could be someone. Am considering getting this tool for mounting on the lathe, as Proxxon manufactures holder 24098, which they state that is for mounting it to their PD-230 lathe usage. I do have a real lathe toolpost grinder, but it's cumbersome, big, heavy and hard to align. An IBS/E mounted to the toolpost changer would be many times faster and suffice for most jobs.

Hi, would you suggest this and the flex shaft for a gold jeweler? can it handle hard and extensive work? I had one proxon for 15 years, so i am a fan.
@DIYTinkerer
@DIYTinkerer Жыл бұрын
Well, I like them, I think they are significantly better than the Dremel, and a lot quieter. I'm only a tinkerer, so don't push the tool that hard. If you are using for long periods I suspect you might need a bigger commercial solution, but if jewellery making is a hobby, I think you will be fine.

thanks for the video i just bought one of these to replace my dead Dremel 4000. i got recommended to get a proxxon by quite a few people but no one mentioned a specific one so i had a toss-up between the FBS 240/e and this. the 240/e is comparable price-wise to a new Dremel same as i had and it would have been fine for me i suppose. however, it was noisy and it got hot every time but apparently thats normal. i saw this one was quite a bit more expensive but it looks more robust so i bit the bullet and ordered one. hopefully, it will meet my expectations it seems like its quieter for sure and i noticed when people turn these on low speeds they seem to whir around nice and smooth where as my Dremel was always grinding sounding as if i didn't give the motor enough power. tbh i think they messed up on the speed controller really they should have had its minimum speed a bit faster so it didnt sound like it was lacking power.

HI, it seems the flexishaft can fit on any other dremmel tool. Why did you imply that it only works on the proxxon? I was just searching for a video to see how the flexishaft fits on to the proxxon and I am shocked that it just goes on as if it is some burr piece. I would think it clipped on to the proxxon tool with much more elegance, but the way it clips on it would for sure clip on to any other dremmel tool, would'nt it?
@DIYTinkerer
@DIYTinkerer 11 ай бұрын
Hi, yes, the flex shaft will fit any rotary tool, I didn't think I'd implied it was only for the proxxon although it is a proxon product. The other proxxon accessories, the ball joint table clamp and the drill press only fit the Proxxon.

Does the hand piece of the flexi shaft share the same 20mm diameter collar? So it can be held in the table clamp for example?

Do you put any lubrication on that flex shaft? The handle can unscrew a bit and there is space to put oil at both ends but I can't find any info about lubricating this Proxxon model. Thanks.
@DIYTinkerer
@DIYTinkerer Жыл бұрын
I don't, I've never really thought about it until now, but I did have one break not long after getting it, so it might be worth considering. I know when I spoke to Proxxon at the time they never asked if I had used a lubricant, they thought I'd probably bent it too much (which I hadn't) so I think they don't expect you to.
@rikimiki12
@rikimiki12 Жыл бұрын
@@DIYTinkerer Thanks for answering. The handle is the only place where is easy to put a some drops of oil, if needed. To lubricate the inside of the tube, which is where other brands need lubrication, doesn't look like an easy job. I don't know how the other end can be unscrewed. So I'll leave it like that for the moment.

Thank You very much for this video. Will this tool be useful for precision drilling, for example making 1mm hole in 4-4.5 mm steel bar? It would be great to demonstrate such drilling process in stainless steel. Do You familiar to the IBS/A, that is the cordless version of IBS/E. Do they both use the same brushed motor and double bearing technology. It is interesting to know...

Hi there, thank you for this video, I've just been introduced to Proxxon and am having a hard time figuring out which is best for me. I need power (silversmithing - grinding metal) as well as high accuracy for precision drilling, I have gathered that this model is the most precise of the bunch, however, I cannot do precise 0.8mm drilling holding a tool this size, so what I'd like to find out, is if it is still so accurate/still/low vibration when using the flex shaft? This also is a more expensive one and I am not even sure if it is available in my country as I have only seen the FBS 240/E model here so far, which seems pretty good too, also claims precision but this one seems to be the winner when compared. But yes my main question is, does it retain its low vibration/high accuracy when its used with the flex shaft? I wish there was a showroom where I could try them all out. The small/low volt models look much easier to hold but I am not sure if they have enough power for some metal tasks. Thanks again for the video!
@DIYTinkerer
@DIYTinkerer 2 жыл бұрын
I don't use the flex shaft much, but I've just had it out to assess the vibration for you and I'd say the vibrations are perceptible ( you can feel it is on) but my view is this isn't going to affect the accuracy. Worth noting that the flex shaft uses a chuck rather than collets, if the accuracy you need demands collets then I doubt you will get what you are after, but given you are hand holding the flex shaft I suspect you will be fine. I couldn't detect and more vibration than the tool on its own was giving. Hope this helps.

So I have a question, I have the fbs240e and I'm getting some weird vibration/ resonance above 16k rpm with an empty 3 jaw chuck (no tool inserted), without the chuck it is really smooth, is my 3 jaw chuck unbalanced/defective or is this expected?
