Proxxon Micromot 60/EF, 60/E, MIS-1 Review

Hi Paul, I love your videos and your work. In this video you say that the place of production is wage by Saying "Made in EU". But the very precise address is actually in front of your nose. It says "LU-6868 Wecker". LU stands for Luxembourg, 6868 is the post code for the town Wecker in Luxembourg. It is about 5 kilometers from my house. Sometimes you need to remove the US glases. :-) Adresses etc look different to what you are used to in US. Luxembourg may be a tiny country but it is a member of the EU.

This is the best Proxxon review on KZbin. You told me everything I wanted to know about the 60/EF and NG5/E and how they perform together... My stockist, despite being a specialist had to e-mail Proxxon and still came back with an incorrect response. Incorrect, given that you demonstrate how slow you can choke the drill down to with the power supply, and show footage of actual plastic modelling use that fills me with confidence in the product that I would not otherwise have. I feel a lot more relaxed about the imminent delivery of my drill / supply. Thank you.

Wow... a new video from This Old Tony and Scale Model Workshop , all in one day? Even though it was over five moths ago, I'm gonna just pretend that today is my birthday. And here I was, thinking about plunking down some dough to upgrade from my dinky little rotary tool to either a Micro-Mark or a Proxxon; think I'm just gonna spend the money on a kit or two, instead. Thanks for these reviews that you do- it saves us non-millionaires quite a few bucks in the long run. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

This was an extremely good review and comparison and I totally agree with all points you mentioned!😎👍🏻 But there is one thing the guys from Proxxon told me: They strongly advice against using a MICROMOT 60/E or /EF (those are the ones with speed controll) together with the (adjustable) Mains Adapter NG 5/E (or NG 2/E) to lower the drill speed because the motors could not be cooled down enough at a speed less than 5000 RPM and so they soon would overheat... Well, I did this many years ago with a different adjustable power supply and it really worked fine.😉 But back then it was an old MICROMOT, perhaps these machines today may react more "squeamish".🙄😁 Many thanks for your great video again and best regards from Southwest Germany.🍀

@scale-model-workshop I was thinking of purchasing the NG 5/E with the Micromot 60/EF ¿can you give us some feedback on what @PolLight3000 is mentioning? ¿is there any combination of Proxxon tools that will allow to work bellow 5000rpm without ruining them? I'm interested in working mainly in plastic (including 3D printed parts, etc..) so low speed would really help to avoid melting the material. Many thanks!

I agree that there are some shortcomings for our hobby in particular but overall it is a great tool to use.

Hi Paul, thanks for the neet video .I am from India. I am using micromot 50/E and 60/E for many years and that too on stainless steel with milling burrs and its doing its job in a fantastic way. I have cordless dremel too but its very thick , using for sharpening my tools. Purchased two more for my son and daughter. The machine is really fabulous. Thanks

I've had a Micromot 50/E for a long time, and I agree that the basic cord is both short and stiff. Using the extension was a definite upgrade, even with the smaller power unit of that model. I also agree with the point about the zero-clearance collets, I don't work much with sub-1mm drills on mine, but have gotten some fat-shanked bits that I can actually grab onto for the rare occasions that I do. For what it is, I've not been too disappointed with the unit.

I use the small transformer plunged in a variable speed foot control, so you save space, money, and can easily control the speed. With this setup, the speed control on the toll only limit the max speed.

Thank you so much for the review. I was just thinking about purchasing one of these. The lack of precision engineering at the factory makes these almost a hit or miss with the tool runout... My new attention to details would now make these a questionable buy... In your opinion what would be the next step up in the hand held drills? Thank you for the great review!

Run-out is a concern to me particularly with the ‘micro’ drill sizes so I’d also be interested in your opinion as to a somewhat better choice of tool may be from those currently available (or possibly second hand more professional tools).

I have Proxxon Micromot 50/EF, bought it for delicate jobs for which my old Dremel 300 is too big/chunky. It's overall good tool, but with some minuses: - when turned on, it generates very noticeable vibrations. It's not too bad, but if you are working for a longer time, you will definitely feel it in your hand afterwards (strong tingling sensation which will dissapear after some time). Strange thing is that although those vibrations, chuck is almost precise and not too wobbly... don't know what causes those vibrations. It's pretty sad, because Proxxon says about 50/EF: "The balanced motor effortlessly drives the ground ball bearing spindle allowing for a quiet run with a pleasant sound. High-quality MICROMOT steel collets ensure accurate clamping of even the smallest shafts, without rattling or vibrating of bits and cutters." Well, this is not true for my piece at all, those vibrations are there and it's not very pleasant to work with it for longer time then 5-10 minutes. - curled power cord is awfuly impractical and non ergonomic (100% agree with Paul in this video), thanks to those curls I catch random objects on my workbench in them all the time, which drives me nuts. Proxxon, please... next time with simple straight power cord, ok? - marketing materials for 50/EF says that it has motor which has powerful torque even in lower RPMs because of feedback effect. This is lie/bullshit, because there is not any feedback at all (DC power supply is just simple transformer with rectifier) and you can effortlessly stop spindle by hand when rotating in low rpm. Other than that it's useful tool and I'm still using it from time to time, but whenever I can I prefer my old trusty Dremel 300 instead, because it has literally no vibrations (perfectly balnced), has much more power and it's chuck is dead precise. I don't wanna be a party pooper/Proxxon hater here, it's just my honest review of one of it's rotary tools which I own for a few years.

What one pays for Proxxon I will stick to my cheap Chinese made tool. This unit has be running for years and still runs great and is also great for plastic models.

Great review. Even though they are light, it doesn't look like they fit the hand very well. There is no place to place your fingertips and hold it like a pen. I also hate coiled cords for something that you want to use with precision and accuracy, and with a light touch.

Thanks for the review. It's been my experience that Proxxon isn't really worth the extra money. I hope you didn't have to spend your own money on those to review. I have the mini table saw, it vibrates and chatters pretty bad. Also a power woodcarving chisel, it gets uncomfortably hot after a few minutes of carving.

I've had several Proxxon tools over the years. The 12" disc sander is not that useful, as it lacks enough power to for the size of the disc. The 5" sander is a very nice unit. My favorite is the Chop saw - I got it many years ago from Micro-Mark, back when it cost around $ 100. It has given me stellar service and is a much, much better than the cheap saws sold by Harbor Freight and others - this is a case where you do get what you pay for. The little pen sander is a handy gadget sometimes, when you need to get into a tight area.

Thank you. My experience with this product has not been good. On the E, I can't find an adjustable chuck, also I wasted my time buying the useless foot petal. All it does is turn the way too fast spindle on and off. It does not have a rheostat. I tried dealing with Proxxon's customer service, just voice mail no help. Give this product and company a pass.
