Hello, Sorry to answer so later but I find your question now....It's links with your programm. If your goal is to make short travel (no more than one week in TET track) yes it is. Keep in mind that YAMAHA T700 is more versatile, you can use it for duo (690 is not confortable in solo so in duo it's an nightmare), more reliable and less expensive. In other hand, T700 is more heavy (40kg) and you lost more money when you want to sold it. 690 engine is not very smooth in offroad (you must be at high RPM). So, I think that if you are a thrue beginner, buy an old 600 TTRE or 600/350 DR and gain experience during 2 or 3 years. If you want to make short trip in solo buy a 690, if you want to make trip in Europe (TET Albania, Greece more than 3000 km by trip) buy T7, il you want to make Wold trip (Silk road, Ruta 40, DEMESEY Road) buy a BMW 1200 (or 1250) GSA...

@@rideyourdreammoto Thanks, I was considering for a daily commute of 39.5km and the occasional fire road camping. But for a beginner, I don't think I will be able to handle the large size of the the T700 from Yamaha of even the 1200GS. I'm looking for something smaller, that's why the mid size looked interesting. Thanks

@@DucTaZenSurfer I have try T700, engine is very smooth and, I think, more easy for a beginner, even if the weight is 40 kg more important than 690 stock. T700 It's not a lorry, twin engine is powerfull. 690 request agressivity and I think is not recommanded for a beginner. Try also Beta Alp 4 or SWM 650 super dual ? For 1200 GS you're right !
