Really stunning livery! I always wished the Hymeks had been painted in this colour scheme, like the Westerns and Warships. GBrf should paint all their 69s, in fact their whole fleet in maroon! Finally a livery with some class and dignity.

Any other company would just paint the 69s into their corporate colours but not GBRf! When I saw the photo of her earlier this month, it took me awhile to see she was liveried just like the Westerns. I love the attention to detail like the cast number & nameplates

Makes sense to refit a good chassis. Good financial and eco sense too.
@johno452110 ай бұрын
Is cost even the primary consideration? With any more new 66s out of the question due to emissions regs, the 69 is a way of circumventing this as they are classed as refurbished locos even though they have new engines the same as a 66!

Kinda don’t mind the look, and love the refurbishment of old diesel locos but seems weird and kinda wrong with a modern-ish 66 engine in it. The older engines just sounded way better! I appreciate the 66 is very reliable but hey..

Each to their own, I love the sound of EMD
@danielsellers870710 ай бұрын
@@andrewreynolds4949 UK railfans seem more vocal about the Yingrids than the Yingduffs. I think if the Class 56 had had the Sulzer V16 (production version of Kestrel) instead of the Paxman there would have been less adverse reaction, as UK railfans seem to prefer the EE growl to the Sulzer splutter.
@andrewreynolds494910 ай бұрын
@@danielsellers8707 Many American railfans like GE or Alco sounds better for likely similar reasons, but I've always preferred the steady growling whine of EMD units; though recent GE models have gotten better. Even British Sulzer and Paxman have a splutter to them that just sounds slightly unhealthy to me. The 66 does have a strange tendency to generate that annoying ying-ying sound when idling; It seems to be a thing with that particular locomotive model, I don't normally notice it on other EMD products elsewhere.

@robertbate579010 ай бұрын
@@trainman86trainstramsandmore Yes, I can see your point. Perhaps one or some may be preserved in original condition, but probably not by rail operators. The railway has to follow the laws on eco standards too. Not sure 56s meet those standards, lol 🤣. Mind the 70s can be just as bad.

A lot of it is about fuel-efficiency, spares availability, reliability, running costs etc. I'd rather see a sound rolling chassis and running gear fitted with a new engine to do another 10-20 years service, than just scrap it, likewise the 60's. Of course I'll miss the engine sound, but the loco still works! 🙂
