I'm a little behind on my chores. I need to get to it. Property maintenance gets much easier with the right tools. The Kubota LX2610 compact tractor, Landpride FDR1660 rear mount lawn mower, Landpride pallet forks and my STIHL FS56 string trimmer make the difference. Hope you will follow along as I prep the property for the long weekend! Happy Canada Day and Happy Independence Day to all!

Gord, you mention buying discount tractors, but it's not a couple thousand difference. It was well over 10 thousand different. A Kubota the size of my LS with fewer needed items was 14 thousand more. And a Deere with fewer items was 18 thousand more. There is no way I was going that route. I talked to a lot of LS owners and all of them loved their tractors. I traded a BX series Kubota in to get my LS. I really liked my Kubota but I feel the same way with my LS. And I have worked it hard. Just saying sometimes you just can't justify going with the popular brand. And LS builds the New Holland compact and sub-compacts along with Case IH and 8 other well known tractor brands. But I put 300 hours on my Kubota in 1 year and sold it for $500 more than I paid for it.

Hey good morning Jerome! Wow - that is a substantial difference and would certainly make me think hard for sure. Thanks for putting some numbers around it for folks to see - resale is another good consideration. I will PIN your comment to the top so folks can see it. Cheers and thanks again!

I think it depends on what discount tractor you get. TYM, Kioti, and LS are large tractor makers with a descent network for supplies. However, they are probably not going to hold their value as well as JD and Kubota. There are trade-offs and its real money when you go to buy. Yes, the Summit tractors are quite the value for what you get. Since they are being made by ITL, who makes the Solis brand, it may work out for service and parts. My attitude is to wait and see so I would be hesitant to buy even at the attractive price. Then again, there were a couple of guys selling books online over 20 years ago to go around bookstores out of their garage. That paradigm worked, which, of course, turned into Amazon. Just some food for thought

@@jimmcknight3021 I really wasn't looking for an argument as such. I was just pointing out to get the size tractor I needed I went to a well known tractor manufacturer who offered a tractor that I could afford. If you look at JDs or Ks advertising budget you will understand where a lot of their profits go. You on the other hand must have a bigger bank account than myself. And as far as resale value goes I'm already retired and this will be the last tractor I buy. So that really doesn't matter to me.

A lot of time in a big box store just getting someone to unlock a cage door to get a $25.00 roll of wire can take over an hour. The 3 peaces of Kubota equipment that I have have been well worth the price. The main reason is the wonderful dealership that is there to support me and the equipment. More than once they have bent over backwards; even though, they lost money on the effort. Therefore I buy exclusively from them for anything these machines need.

Those days passed on chores to go spend it with friends will not be forgotten. My wife and I have done that in reverse, well I've gone on a couple of fishing trips with friends. The work is to a point we are happy with it for now and the frustration level has peaked (we don't like seeing the boat tied up to the dock and covered) so its time to put the tools away and enjoy the summer. Oh wait a minute, there is some firewood to move to the storage bin... I completely agree with purchasing from a good dealer. Parts and service play a big roll in the years afterwards.

Gordon, I agree about not wanting to buy a tractor from a Big Box store that is trying out sales as a sideline, with no dedication to service or brand commitment. Home Depot here in Tennessee just started selling Summit tractors. Regardless of the number of positive reviews about Summit, I'd never consider buying from a chain big box....that model has a history of stranding customers.

Hi, GP Outdoors. Great video once again. Hey, I noticed you seemed to be winding up your weed trimer line while using an old style weed trimmer head. Like you it takes me about 2 1/2 hours to just trim my property with continuous breaks to wind up and cut new weed trimer line. I recently replaced my old weed trimmer head with a ECHO Speedfeed 400 Head and its like heaven. The line works much better and the self winding head is simply amazing. I only change my line once per 3 cuts now and it only takes me seconds to replace and wind up my line. The head also works amazingly well for any big job. You should give this trimer head a look. Now I understand why You Tubers call it the best trimmer head ever made.

Good call on swithing out the battery on the PWC. As Coast Guard Auxiliary on western Lake Ontario many of our calls, in the spring, are maintenance related. Dead or low batteries, skunky gas and the like. On another note I saw a YT short. In it I saw that a fella had suspended an ornimental, dollar store dragonfly, attached to his horse's bridle to scare away the deer flies (dragonflies being a natural predator) perhaps an addition to your chainsaw helmet?

Greatings JP - I would be remiss not to suggest you try a wheeled string trimmer - I have 7 acres about an hour south of you and it is the most important tool in our arsenal of yard maintenance. Some notes Gord, on buying a tractor,.. you are on the money with what you said,.. ALWAYS better to buy from a servicing dealer, every time. On CanAm /BRP 'vehicles' man oh man you are spot on here too. Ever try to replace the battery on a CanAm, what design engineer thought that one up? On cutting grasses etc. that 'needs' to be cut,. yes leave some for the bees. It's what a friend of mine suggested I do too. On having equipment/implements around the house, while it's convenient for the tractor owner it is NOT good viewing f0r other's in your life, is it? ( ask me about that one! LOL ) Finally, a question or rather an observation, there at about the 11:35 mark, that hitch arm on the mower, floating on what appears to be loose bolts, I guess that's normal. but it sure get's my OCD's attention. (haha) Good video Sir, thanks.

I love it but a bit big for going around the property shrubs, etc. last year I bought a DEWALT 20V trimmer and where I have many DEWALT 20V tools with batteries it was the right choice. I love it. Folding handle, quiet, light, no smell of fumes and the tap and go head works great. The manual says use DEWALT trimmer cord only. That’s not the case. GP, Do you think it is better to cover your seasonal attachments with a tarp in the off-season, or just leave them un-covered. It is obvious that it would keep the rain/snow off of them, but it would also tend to sweat which may cause them to rust faster. What has your experience shown to be the best (tarp vs. n-tarp)? Cheers...
@GPOutdoors
@GPOutdoors Жыл бұрын
Hey good day John. A great question. Guy has suggested not to tarp for that very reason so I don't usually tarp and when I do, I only drape it across the top so moisture does not get trapped. However many folks have suggested that it is good to cover the hydraulic hoses so they are not subject to the UV rays all summer ( perhaps speeds up them drying out and cracking) but most of my hoses have that fabric wrap on them. Hope you have a nice Holiday!
