I don't see why the original fur was unusable. It looks very intact. A few eggs, nonsense all sort able. The fur really lacks the character factor once replaced. I really wouldn't be happy with this restoration.

The fur was greasy and bitty to the touch, losing pile in clumps and infested with insects. See our magician restoration in episode 10 for textile conservation .
